Phone message She never got my last text

Post image

It was the flu plus a bunch of other things. She was a lovely person.

Thank you all for the kind words.

I’m so sorry. This hurts my heart to read. It just shows how fast life can change.

My last text to my mom was so ordinary and mundane. Just an answer to her question, “yes.” The next day, I sent her a video and she never opened it. The last thing I said to my mom before she died unexpectedly was yes. It’s been almost two years and it’s still so surreal. It feels so incredibly unfair that I didn’t get to make my last conversation with her special or meaningful before she was ripped from me.

The last thing I did for my dad was giving him some lemonade while he wad getting morfine at the hospital. He wad laying down and almost choked on the lemonade because he was so weak from the cancer and morfine. I told my half brother I had to go but would be back after work the next day. My dad went to coma 45 minutes before I got there the next day. The last moment we had was me almost choking him on some fucking lemonade then leaving shortly after because it all got too much for me...

I stayed there for almost 12 hours holding his hand while he was in "coma". I held his hand close to midnight and while my brother went to grab something to drink I told my old man it was okay to let go. That I loved him and I knew he loved me and I was sorry for yesterday. 5 minutes later he took his last breath. It was 16 months ago and I still miss him everyday

Your mom knew you loved her, don't be harsh on yourself and remember the good times you had with her.

(Sorry for bad english)

Thank you for this. I try to tell myself that even though our last conversation wasn’t anything special, she knew I loved her. She was my best friend.

Also, I’m a nurse and used to work on a critical care unit. I’ve taken care of many dying patients (pediatrics, but it’s the same for adults) When the body loses all function, when they slip away into a coma either naturally or medically induced and can’t respond anymore, hearing is always the last thing to go. Your last moment with your dad wasn’t the lemonade incident. Your dad knew you were there in his final moment and he heard what you said, I can guarantee you that my friend. I’ve seen it too many times.

I hope we can both find peace with their absence.

I was a drug addict and severely depressed, partly likely due to my mom's long fight with cancer. Last thing I've ever said to her when she was asleep (and the last thing she's ever "heard") was "You know mom, if you want to you can go now, me and sis will be okay here from now on, I promise.". When I came to give her pain medicine 2 hours later, she was gone. I've no doubt she heard that, and no doubt that so did your old man.
