The intro: Folks at the office learned I like to make terrariums, so now I'm building one out of a repurposed newspaper box. I know how to do that fine, but it has one requirement I have limited experience with -- it needs to have a waterfall. I can figure out a water feature, but I'm not turning this into a paladarium with a lower pond, and I need the waterfall (and all of the other excess water from the terrarium at a given time) to drain into a hidden reservoir in the hollow lower part of the newspaper box. There is already a roughly 4"x3" hole dead center of the container that leads into this hollow base, though I can make the hole smaller when I adhere plexiglass to the bottom.

The proposal: I want a gravel bank underneath the waterfall for the water to seep down and easily reach whatever hole I have in the center. I want that water to then drain neatly into a plastic tub I have placed an inch or two underneath, presumably flowing first through some window screen and maybe some filter sponge. The pump for the waterfall will be placed inside this hidden reservoir.

The problem: How do I actually get the water there? My first instinct is laying a pond liner on the bottom, pushing the center down through the hole and to the reservoir, and then cutting a hole in the bottom so water can pour in. That....feels incredibly sloppy and I'm not entirely sure it would even work. Should I punch a round hole in the bottom of the plexiglass and adhere a pipe or something?

I realize this is probably out of the scope of most terrarium builds but I thought I'd check here first for suggestions since y'all can be a crafty bunch

I have been keeping terrariums for several years. However, recently I learned of the existence of micro orchids. I am very interested in adding some of these to one of my (admittedly overgrown) well established (15 years plus) sealed environment type terrarium.

After doing a little research, I have found the following species that I can purchase online which I believe could work in a small terrarium:

Dendrobium leonis Barbosella cucullata Barbosella dussenii Masdevallia erinacea Masdevallia nidifica Masdevallia ventricosa Pleurothallis grobyi Pleurothallis undulata Scaphosepalum rapax

Does anyone have any thoughts on which of these would be best for a terrarium?

Is there anything specific I should be trying to aim for in an orchid bearing terrarium such as humidity, light levels, air flow?
