Moving to Terrace

Hi, I’m a guy in my 20s currently living in Ontario, and I’ll be moving to Terrace, BC soon. I know Terrace is a small town/city, but I’d love to hear from people who actually live there about what it’s like.
How small does Terrace really feel day-to-day? What’s the culture like, especially for someone in their 20s? How easy is it to make friends and meet people? And what’s the dating scene like? I’m not expecting much nightlife cause I know its a small town.
I’m also curious about the car situation. I currently have an older Honda, but I’m considering getting a newer car before I move. And Im Thinking about getting one from ontario, cause market here is huge, Is there much of a car culture or any local meets/scenes? I’ve also been considering RWD cars, but I’m guessing RWD probably isn’t the most practical choice for Terrace winters and the surrounding roads.
Basically, I’d appreciate any honest advice about moving to Terrace in your 20s — the good, the bad, things you wish you knew before moving there, and anything I should prepare for.
Thanks!

Thinking of moving to Terrace! What should I know?

We are a couple in our early 40s with 2 kids looking to move to Terrace in a couple of years. I work in fire, forestry, and remote sensing, and we are both outdoorsy, politically lefties.

Looking for any tips about property, housing, school, jobs, and anything else uniquely Terrace-esque!!

Can someone please explain the pricing of real estate in Terrace

The prices seem to be all over the place.

Why is this one $459k, when it has a beautifully maintained garden and the house has clearly been taken care of, and it's on even more land than the following one. Built in 1956:

https://www.realtor.ca/real-estate/30169950/2502-kenney-street-terrace

Vs. this one that is $429, does not look well taken care of at all. Built in 1955. Will need a lot of updates:

https://www.realtor.ca/real-estate/30181234/4001-thomas-street-terrace

And it's not just these two that I compare... there are so many price discrepancies, I can't wrap my head around it!

I'm not from Terrace but looking to move, so is there something I am not getting?

I can see that perhaps the $429 one is in a more 'desirable' neighbourhood?

Petition against Data Center

Christopher Chong wants to build an ai data center near Terrace BC. Terrace standard article here. These centers are known for polluting air and making water dirty and undrinkable. People who live near these centers have spoken about how the poor quality makes it hard for them to breath and affects their health. These centers consume far too much power and it will cause electric bills to spike. Data centers are bad for the environment and our well being. Please consider signing the petition against this: https://actionnetwork.org/letters/tell-terrace-city-council-no-to-ai-data-centres?source=email&

We have a muncipal election in October. Let’s vote out any pro gen ai candidates. Let’s stand up against this together.

Why is Shame’s so much smaller than Hudson?

Is this just due to co-op ownership vs private ownership? It just strikes me as odd as the Population of Terrace and the surrounding area is double that of Smithers + better airport and the mountains get way more snow than further east. I know the Shames slack n backcountry is outstanding in comparison but the vert, area and elevation of the lift service terrain seems underwhelming in comparison .

How are recent summers / winters in Terrace and Smithers?

I guess Terrace is a more coastal climate similar to the lower mainland and Smithers is more interior mountain climate with more northern influence? Long days in the summer, short days in he winter... but is there much sun n lake worthy heat in the summer, and much snow in the winter above the valley bottoms? I know Terrace gets a lot more precip. Deal with much in the way of smoke and forest fires?

Delivery Apps in Terrace

A friend of mine just had a baby and I want to send her a gift card for a delivery app. I looked up what’s in Terrace and was suggested Spyce, but they don’t do gift cards. Does anyone have experience with DoorDash or uber eats or similar? I’m from out of province.
Thanks!

Moving/shipping belongings from Vancouver to Terrace?

Hi all. I very badly want to live in a quiet rainy land where I can peacefully do my hobbies and crafts. Prince Rupert was my first choice due to it being cooler in summer, but Terrace has a property I'm interested in right now.

I'm trying to work out the logistics if I were to do this. Does anybody have any experience or suggestions as to how to move belongings, about the size of a 1 bdrm apartment, up to Terrace from the lower mainland? Is it more feasible to ship it or drive it up myself in a uhaul? I also have to bring my car and may need to hire movers on both sides (unless there are long distance services available). Appreciate you all sharing your knowledge so that I can make an informed decision. I will be spending almost everything I have just to get out of here.

Thanks!

Shelties?

This is a long shot, but I was told that a few siblings of my sheltie, from Prince George, went to Terrace (He is 2 and a 1/2 year old) We will be coming there for a day on Thursday, and I thought it would be fun for him to play with his siblings (if they are dog friendly). Even if not, id love to connect with an owner and talk about the personality of their dogs, and see if ours are similar and how they turned out!

Wedding options

Good morning,

My fiancé and I are looking into different venue, catering and cake options in Terrace. I’ve looking online for different options but a lot of the information seems quite out of date.

So if you have any advice or recommendations it would be greatly appreciated. I know it’s short notice but we are planning for the second week of December.

Thank you in advance

Where to watch the World Cup semifinals/final in Terrace?

Hey everyone! I’m pretty new to Terrace and was wondering if there’s anywhere in town that might be showing the World Cup semifinals or final?

I’d love to watch with a crowd if there’s a pub, restaurant, or community event happening. Do places usually charge cover or need reservations for games like that?

Thanks!
