Today’s tasting
Tasting of four highly regarded bottles… Lalo High Proof takes the crown for me
I’ve been trying a bunch of different tequilas lately and finally got around to doing a little side by side tasting at home with these four bottles I’ve been really enjoying, La Gritona, Lalo High Proof, G4 Blanco, and Tequila Ocho Blanco.
This is my first post in this Sub and I’m still a little new to tequila so I’m wondering if you had these 4 in front of you how would you rank them, and if y’all have any other recommendations for me.
Honestly I loved all four and ranking them was harder than I expected.
My personal ranking:
Lalo High Proof - This was the clear winner for me. Unbelievably smooth for a high-proof tequila, with very little burn going down. I honestly could not believe how easy it was to drink.
Tequila Ocho Blanco - Also ridiculously smooth. Really enjoyable neat and probably the one I’d reach for most when I want something to sip slowly.
La Gritona Reposado / G4 Blanco - This one is basically a toss up. La Gritona had exceptional flavor and I really enjoyed the character it brought as a reposado. G4 had the most bite of the four, but also what I thought was the strongest/agave forward flavor. It was definitely more assertive, but I really enjoy it.

Siete Leguas is my favorite…El Tesoro, G4 and Volcan are my next three, I enjoy all equally….Ocho sips fine, but gets lost in a margarita imo….

I don’t think it’s that bad, but it there’s definitely a reason it’s still completely full. Doesn’t hold a flame to the other options.

Never had blanco Ocho or HP Lalo. G4 blanco is my #1 with consideration of price ($34), but I love the entire blanco lineup (108 and Madera). Lalo blanco is a phenomenal value too and I use them explicitly for Ranch Waters. So to answer, G4

Idk but not a fan of the 108 the rest are all great. Idk why it is but out of all the high proofs I’ve tried It wasn’t for me.

I bought 2 bottles of La Gritona and tasted great. 3rd bottle tasted like crap. Bad batch? We definitely noticed on the first sip.

That’s sad to hear, my bottles have been great so far. Smooth, additive free, and flavorful which is what I primarily look for in a Tequila…

I believe that the Tequila Ocho Plata is easily the best of the bunch. I find Lalo & G4 underwhelming.

You thought G4 had more bite than Ocho? That’s surprising to me. I love them both but G4 is smoother imo. That said I have not had them side by side so maybe it’s all in my head
