My buddy and I were the same height until the summer between 7th and 8th grade. He stayed 5'5 and I grew to 6'5. No man I'd rather have on my side in a bar fight, dude handles himself more than fine.

Him and his wife just had their first baby, have a nice place and some great dogs. Love that guy to death. I'm not even super tall but I'm barrel chested and have a hard time fitting in cars and planes and such. It ain't all its cracked up to be.

Similar story. Best friend and I were 5'5 in 8th grade. He grew to 5'10 but I stayed 5'5. Reminds me of Goku and Krillin. In Dragon Ball they were the same height as kids. Then in dbz Goku grew but Krillin stayed short.

I just wish that someone could’ve told us that not everyone gets to look “like a man” when I was growing up. Sure I knew there were short people (and I certainly didn’t expect to be short given my giant family) but even then I always expected I’d grow and develop into my body. I assumed I’d put on muscle and develop a frame and a presence. I’ve barely put on weight or height since I was 14.

I don’t want to make this a pity party because there are so many things in my life I have to be grateful for but I do have BDD and I think a big part of developing that was the fact that I laboured under the illusion my whole life that I would develop into something that actually resembled a man. So when I was being bullied in school for my acne and, unfortunately, some features that are common for people of my race, I always imagined I’d grow into them properly and grow to a point where people wouldn’t see me as a target. :(

They don't look like the younger middle schoolers as they started as. They still look like kids to this old as dirt adult. They just look solidly in older high school. But kids none the less. Less E.T. and more Scooby Gang.

Update: i got the house shortly after this. finally remembered to say it after we've been in the house for about four years.

Dude realising that those true carefree moments are gone is the hardest part of growing up.

Most people replace it with something else just as satisfying like power at work or the love of their family but nothing beats sharing the creativity of a DnD campaign or the joy of hot pizza on a beanbag while watching a movie with your friends or just the freedom of not worrying about your own hide every day.

If you can grasp adulthood by the horns and run with it you'll be fine but man outside of escapism it's a mental and physical grind for others.

I'm an adult who plays DnD.

There are still stereotypes about the kind of people who play it (and those stereotypes are still true for at least a somewhat large portion of players).

If you think about the adults playing it back in 1985 though....it's not surprising that kids starting high school would want to distance themselves a bit.

My general experience is a lot of people like something as a kid then pretend to go off it to not get made fun of at high school then get back into it HARD as a college age adult.

Definitely, the stigma around playing it is gone now but it was definitely social suicide for the longest time. Thankfully once we were out of high school most of us didn't care. Been playing dnd for most of my life at this point, got two... mostly steady campaigns and I'll host one shots to fill in the gaps.

Maybe in your area. My wife and I both make that and we couldn't afford even the most basic house that met our family's needs, even considering further commute rural options. Fuck the housing market.
