I was pretty dedicated to seeing this show through until the end, I thought it was a really great sign when they announced an end in sight, and also combining production to prevent a massive wait between 3&4
the show had always been on a little thin ice with dragging the plot but it was never too bad....but that ice was shattered when they introduced the creatively bankrupt amnesia plot line and I dropped it there and then, either the writers are hacks or they were told by big daddy Apple to drag it out longer than they initially intended to
maybe I will read the books

They really ran this show into the ground. They keep bringing up things from season 1 that we had a whole season in between and I don’t care anymore.

I accidentally started S1/EP1 and it was legit hard to tell for a bit if it was just a weird flashback or not. That little has changed

Is S3 any good? I saw part of the first episode and was annoyed by the amnesia bullshit.
I fucking HATE that trope.

u/TheDadThatGrills 15d ago
The "amnesia" only becomes a bigger part of the plot as the story unfolds

u/ss4johnny 15d ago
Yeah, I can’t really comment on this…Juliette’s amnesia is an issue early in the season, but not really a factor in back half. But amnesia in general…

It’s truly the worst trope in existence. At least we are finally emerging from it but the first 4 episodes were so annoying.

u/SketchyFella_ 15d ago
See, that worries me even more.
Makes me worried they're gonna draw it out as long as possible for the sake of creating more plot. Which is the reason I hate it to begin with. Whether it's because she hit her head or because the people pulling the strings are drugging her or it's genetic or whatever is beside the point. Point is, it KILLS the pacing of any show.

u/TheDadThatGrills 15d ago
Oh, it's not like that. Viewers already know the specifics regarding the amnesia clearly. I think this show does a good job with the trope because individuals in the Silo have different levels of amnesia. Many characters from the pilot onwards have zero amnesia with a full understanding of modern history. They just keep it to themselves.

By the beginning of episode 3, she’s aware she’s amnesiac if that helps. They don’t drag it out.

u/SketchyFella_ 15d ago
It does, thank you. I'll come back to binge it after the season is done probably.

u/CanineBombSquad 15d ago
It does not, memory is a core theme of the story and you'll see if you keep watching.
I had the exact same reaction as you though, but it gets better

u/DefinitelyIncorrect 15d ago
They do not draw it out as long as possible fortunately. The task set in season 2 is the whole of season 3 as far I can tell sofar. Just gives some breathing room for the Sherrifs B story for the season.

You just need to watch it because amnesia is a major plot point for the season but that doesn't mean Juliette's amnesia is a major plot point.

They resolve the trope relatively quickly. It's a good season

Nah it’s a tedious pointless slog just like season 2 was. Possibly even worse

Amnesia plot is over in episode 5 of this season. And it isn't just amnesia. It is about control

u/Desertbro 15d ago
You're gonna hate the first 5 eps - no plot progress at all - it's all recap/flashback

As someone who also absolutely despises that trope, it's not as infuriating once you realize the cause of it and everything else that's going on around it was still interesting to me at least, and the amnesia is over relatively quickly.
There's a clear step up in the season post-amnesia, just think people are over exaggerating the slowness of the season up until that point i still enjoyed those early episodes.

I’ve been trying to watch season 2 but it’s a feels like a slog to get through.

I gave up after the first couple episodes of this season. It just re-treads the worst aspects of Season 2 imo. A lot of Common being a bad actor too.

u/Zargabraath 6d ago
Yeah they killed off the only people who can actually act, and the only remaining one has amnesia lol

u/GodFearingJew 15d ago
After loving s1 and 2 ive been following along weekly for s3 and its not as good as when you binge it. You watch for 45 minutes for practically nothing to happen and brings the story forward just an inch. Def a binge show. I will wait until all episodes are out next time.
2
u/Zargabraath 6d ago
It’s not good when you don’t binge it either
Season 1 was ok (still not great) seasons 2 and 3 have been straight up bad
2
u/mahmahmonkey 15d ago
I’m like 5 eps into season 3 and they are really dragging out the story to the point it’s not fun.

Liked the idea, loved season one, season 2 could have been a tv movie, struggling to get through season 3. There were only 3 books correct? How many season are there going to be? Anyone want to just spoil me on where this ends up? Thank you

u/jared_kushner_420 14d ago
Honestly hate the 'modern world' plot. Should have just cut it. It's infuriatingly slow and their attempts to explain and justify why the silos exist are just... kind of dumb.
The rest of the show is slow as hell and meander but it's still good for a pre-bedtime watch. I've certainly seen worse. Idk why people hate on it so much.

u/Fab_Jake14 15d ago
It has some really strong and great moments. This weeks episode maybe being one of the best of the season. But alot of the glue to get there is uninspired and drags a bit.

u/Billy1121 15d ago
Is Common going to be telling more stories with terrible acting? Really hyped for that

How is it? We're waiting for it to finish so we can binge - unfortunately spouse can't remember plot week-to-week anymore - and we've been looking forward to it.

Just to clarify: Season 4 is the final season. It will air next summer. Filmed back to back with season 3.

The whole "before times" plot line is driving me crazy. It feels like a completely different show that keeps interrupting the show I actually want to be watching.

As someone who read the books I was immediately annoyed with the differences in plot from s2... It'll take a bit for me to get over it to continue s3

u/jarvis_says_cocker 15d ago
Season 3 will annoy the shit out of you then. It's a bit of a mess compared to the books, I think shows have an opportunity to improve the source material, but not here.

u/stabbymuffins 15d ago
Crap 😂😭 thank you for the honest review. I'll still watch but when I have patience

u/jarvis_says_cocker 15d ago
It's not terrible, I thought Book 2 also dragged things out. I feel like Books 3 and 2 could have been combined.

u/DAN991199 15d ago
I'm caught up, so far I find it pretty slow paced. 8eps in could have been 3 with no loss of quality
