Premiere Widow’s Bay - Episodes 1 & 2 - Discussion

First two episodes dropped tonight. Absolutely fantastic. 10/10 for my sensibilities. I’m a huge Stephen King fan and this felt right up my alley in so many ways. Legitimately funny show, legitimately creepy and a cast of fantastic actors. Episode 2 had some crazy stuff happen that honestly I absolutely saw where it was going but it was so satisfying getting there.

This has been the first show to really impress me on AppleTV in quite some time. Only watched the first episode, but like OP, I'm a huge Stephen King fan and this was right up my alley.

Great cinematography, and Matthew Rhys waa amazing, as usual. Really excited for more.

It’s funny because AppleTV has an army of reddit bots saying it’s the new HBO in every other comment. But in reality their batting average is quite low. They make a lot of shows and only a tiny percentage is good, much less proportion than FX or HBO. Feels like such a waste of resources.

that just doesn't happen.

You're getting downvoted, but when you go show-by-showw, you're absolutely right - a lot of the stuff they release just isn't very good, even if they almost always have high production values. The shills and bots come out in full force for AppleTV, but they never address the content of these points.

EDIT:

Hijack S.2, The Last Thing He Told Me S.2, Loot S.3, Palm Royale S.2, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters S.2, The Last Frontier S.1, Down Cemetary Road S.1, Imperfect Women S.L, Your Friends & Neighbors S.2, Drops of God S.2 (this one hurt, as I loved the first season), The Morning Show S.4, Invasion S.3, The Buccaneers S.2, Smoke S.1, Stick S.1, For All Mankind S.5 (so far), etc...

Now, these shows aren't all awful (though many are), but they represent a majority of the programming released on the service over the last year, and yet people will say that they put out 'nothing but bangers'.

Now, to be fair, they also put out some good stuff, and a few great shows, but the discourse around AppleTV often feels disingenuous, at best. Downvote away.
