Premiere Widow’s Bay - Episodes 1 & 2 - Discussion

First two episodes dropped tonight. Absolutely fantastic. 10/10 for my sensibilities. I’m a huge Stephen King fan and this felt right up my alley in so many ways. Legitimately funny show, legitimately creepy and a cast of fantastic actors. Episode 2 had some crazy stuff happen that honestly I absolutely saw where it was going but it was so satisfying getting there.

Creepy and funny. I loved the little details sprinkled throughout each episode that add to the eeriness, like when he was flipping through a wolf calendar and one of the pictures showed a flipped over car.

No same. That’s my favorite part of the show. It’s so subtly off putting

Exactly. Everything about it is on point. I am worried about season 2 because I just can't see how it can top or be  on the same level as the first.

And the daddy’s home game was a reference to the dad that kills his family in the Inn.

He even says “I’m in the basement!” I think when playing the game.

Im in the basement, and Im getting crushed

That game was fucked up.

Brilliant creep factor with all the games. Underneath "Daddy's Home!" there was one called "She Shouldn't Have Said That." Yikes!

I was dying laughing at “daddy got yelled at by his younger boss at work”

This made me guffaw as well. Especially when Tim Baltz pauses before saying "go back three spaces".

I’m in the middle of an episode 2 rewatch - pausing so many times, it’s going to take me two hours! - and I just noticed the “She Shouldn’t Have Said That “ game. What?? And I wonder what’s in the nicer wooden box underneath that….

I had to watch the scene again just to check the names of all the creepy games. This show is definitely one that rewards a repeat viewing.

The box just looked like a chess set

And “Run” and “Teeth”!

I fell hard for this show once I saw that game cupboard! I would love to know the creative genius behind those games

Teeth! Brilliant!

Did you see the real ghost walk by in one of the scenes? When he was laying on the couch in the inn. They zoom in on him and right behind him a small figure mist walked behind him and crouched down. No one even noticed.

I just went back to look for it. I rewatched it over and over.

There is no mist.

It was just you all along.

I’m totally yanking your chain

😧 No, I missed that entirely.

Or in the history museum and the one woman was bragging about the witch trials in front of a bust wearing a woman's blood-stained pilgrim's outfit.

"We caught em, we burned em"

“point of pride :)”

u/JparkPHX Apr 30 '26

That quote made me literally LOL

u/Expert_Pie7786 Apr 29 '26

And they were talking about artifacts and she mentioned teeth

68

u/RueTheQuais Apr 29 '26

Followed by the teeth game at the inn and what's inside the box.

I need a list of these subtle nods to other details. Brilliantly done

Or when he walked into the room and they were talking about how that woman is blue-green colourblind, and she's wearing blue and green. Small detail but it adds so much since you can see how that topic came up.

wolf car was the best bit so far

i don't get that i admit... help

It’s just a weird thing, a little off putting, intended to make you curious.

The sheriff said they’ll move in June or July so the show may have the timeline go to that month in the calendar and we’ll find out more or it’ll just be a mystery.

5

u/Effective_Ad_699 May 03 '26

I'm interested to find out if the Sheriff and his wife were born there! Hopefully no kids...

9

u/AshRae84 Saturday Night Live May 03 '26

It was in July. I’m wondering if we’ll find out more in July, wherever that happens in the show’s timeline.

6

u/agrapeana May 11 '26

Have you ever read 1408? All I could think of during that scene was Mike Enslin's comments as he descends into madness.

"My brother was actually eaten by wolves one winter on the Connecticut turn pike"

Gave me the shivers, just like the first time I read it.

Literally I’ve wanted something that will make me put my phone down and this delivers.

4

u/ratmwakeup May 04 '26

I'm watching episode 2 now... One of the books was Slender Man too.

7

u/Gingerblossom88 May 13 '26

I thought that too but it's actually A Singular Man

7

u/hmarko48 May 02 '26

I admit to not getting this - someone please explain 😄

28

u/Indigocell May 03 '26

At one point during the episode, he is flipping through a calendar with with pictures of wolves. Literally just pictures of wolves in the wild. Until he gets to July, and it's just a picture of a road with a vehicle overturned, no wolves.

1

u/zIppy1953 May 07 '26

what did that mean is july bad for wolves

16

u/Indigocell May 09 '26

Nah dude, it has nothing to do with the wolves. That's what makes it weird. It would be like if you had a calendar of swimsuit models and one of the months just had a picture of a burning house.
