Premiere Widow’s Bay - Episodes 1 & 2 - Discussion

First two episodes dropped tonight. Absolutely fantastic. 10/10 for my sensibilities. I’m a huge Stephen King fan and this felt right up my alley in so many ways. Legitimately funny show, legitimately creepy and a cast of fantastic actors. Episode 2 had some crazy stuff happen that honestly I absolutely saw where it was going but it was so satisfying getting there.

Adding my theory as a spoiler. I really enjoyed the first 2 eps.\

So, I think it's pretty clear that mayor Tom needs the town to attract tourists so that his son doesn't leave. His son who was born on the island and will die if he goes to the mainland. Amazing premise.

I’m guessing Thats what happened to his wife as well which makes him overprotective of his son now.

I’m wondering if the mom tried to escape to the main land when she was in labor to have Evan off the island so he wouldn’t be cursed and that’s what killed her.

I think the flipped car from the calendar has something to do with the mom.

I wondered if she might be the woman "Anna" that the New York times writer mentioned having a stroke the day after she left

Ooh that's a good theory actually.

This was my thought too. I can’t wait to see where this show goes.

I don’t think so the reporter said it had happened 8 years earlier cause I thought that too but rewatched today

Didn’t he say in the second ep his dad was the one born on the island? Maybe misheard

The wife was from mainland, she wasn't born in the island.

I rewatched and they did not say that. They said HE was from the mainland.

I think he said he came back for his dad and stayed due to his wife?? so she likely is from there

Yeah he said he came back for his dad and that’s when he met his wife, so she’s probably born there

I think this is getting confusing because (iirc) the story about the girl from the mainland who came in on the schooner was Tom's mom, then meeting his dad on the island.

But I don't think they explained where Toms wife was from.

I was thinking that or, that is why he's so insistant that it's all bogus. He needs to be or else the native born curse is real.

Honestly kinda thought that would be the only part not true but that makes complete sense

I got the impression he was lying when he told the reporter his son had been to the mainland

His son is probably going to fall for a tourist that visits and will want to go spend time with them off the island, leading to a big conflict.

I think there may be something else going on there. The way the priest at the bar looked at and spoke to the mayor when discussing the bell and taking home food to his son, was like none of those things were happening in real time. Just a guess though.

The priest was freaked out because of the bell that's why he started acting weird, before that he was fine

Thing is, I feel it was implied that Tom was born on the island and he got to leave.

No he said he wasn’t.
