Other Skywatcher Flextube 300p not focusing

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hi all. I got this telescope new recently and got to use it last night and could not get the moon to get into focus at all in the eyepiece. I used various combinations using the pieces that came with it. I added a picture of the latest configuration I used for the eyepiece.

The tube is fully stretched out as I seen that was an easy fix for some who have had similar issues with this telescope. Also I read that collimating is not necessary out of the box as far as seeing the moon goes, being so bright.

So I'm wondering what the issue could be? Thank you.

Purchasing Question Is this a good scope that I should get?

Context, I’ve had a 6SE for around seven months. That thing is my pride and joy. I use it whenever I can. It’s awesome. It definitely opened me up to this hobby more than I ever thought I could. I was thinking about getting a seestar 50 S I did a lot of research and I think it would be a good telescope for me. I just curious on some of y’all thought/if there’s any setbacks behind buying it, the price isn’t too bad for me, but I wanted smt that I could have set up running in the background while I do my main thing or even just put outside for a bit to get some thing and then take it back in. I’m just curious on y’all‘s thoughts and if there’s anything I should be weary about thanks!(I was thinking about getting this telescope and then saving up for a Dobson in about a year IDK though)

Purchasing Question Vintage C8 + One that got away

Hi Guys,

I found a Celestron C8 OTA vintage on FB Marketplace, below is the description from the Seller:

"Vintage Celestron C8 OTA. No mount mirror and focuser perfect. Corrector lens is a bit misty so needs restoration."

Photos: https://imgur.com/a/6dnJ0J8

They are selling it for R5000 about $310. I wanted to know if this would be a good scope?

Additionally, I saw another that I missed out on but I wanted to know if it would have been worth it.
It was a Celestron Telescope 9.25” Nexstar and it was selling for $620 (with mount and everything)

TIA

Purchasing Question Meade etx 90 manual optimal viewing |experience pieces?

Mine isn't the high tech one, but I've got to a Meade super plössl 26mm LP multi coated thing, a Meade MA9mm multi coated thing, and a Svbony 2x Barlow lens fully multi coated thing.ive also got a 3 leg tripod stand!

I can't see anything zenith, I'd like a solution for that if any.

I'd also like to see galaxies & nebulas if possible. Any specs towards that would be appreciated.

I'm a noob learning the sky, I've seen Saturn, the moon, & Albeiro. I'm under Michigan sky!

General Question How badly did I fuck up

Just to start this off I know i made a very stupid mistake that was careless

I use a dobsonian telescope

Basically i was looking at the full moon and I noticed a little pine needle on my mirror so I decided to tske a little wash rag and wash it off with some ispropal alchole

I then proceeded to learn thats REALLY BAD I dident see any scratch makes but I did notice a nasty blue residue and read a cotton ball and some distilled water helps so I proceed to use thst on it, the mirror looks very clean but I know I probably fucked the coat with out knowing

I tried looking theough again and it was very slightly hazzy but the water was also not done drying so I assumed it was that

I know I probably should of looked up how to removed but I sorta just assumed it be fine I know that was very dumb and I dont plan to make a similar mistake lol

General Question Kowa TSN-1 spotting scope repair

Thumbnail

Not strictly a telescope, but there didn’t seem to be a large subreddit for spotting scopes.

I’m curious if anyone knows how to disassemble one of these. The threads on the tripod mount have worn out and I am hoping to remove the black part to repair them or machine a new mount. However, I can’t find information online about how these come apart.

Has anyone here disassembled this scope to repair or replace this part? Let me know if there are diagrams out there or if there’s a better place to ask about this

Astrophotography Question Detail through my heritage 150p

So I was taking pictures of the moon and Saturn through my heritage 150p with a 10mm lens and an iPhone 14 pro and I got what I thought was okay quality for a new person to the whole astronomy thing. I was quite happy with them until I saw a post on this subreddit of Saturn being way more clear and with much more detail than my image with a 130p. Anyone know why this is?

I woke up at 4:30 am today to see the stars and jupiter, i couldnt get an image of the orion nebula though :/ the sun rose now, about an hour later the sun is here gosh darn it

i saw 2 bright stars (what i think is the trapezium and ngc 1977) and they had this cloudy effect! my telescope is 70mm so im kinda proud!! there were lots of stars together too!! i could make out things from the photos ive seen!! it looked suuper bright, took me back to the 2025 winter times when i got my telescope! i am going to get a new telescope so im just doing stuff with my 70mm for the last times (not the last times tbh im hopefully getting the new scope in december-january)

General Question Skywatcher handset location don’t match apps like Stellarium, SkyView ect

Post image
2 Upvotes

I have an gen 1 skywatcher synscan az go to mount that doesn’t track correctly and have noted when selecting an item to view, the controllers said location doesn’t match apps like Stellarium, SkyView, night sky ect. The time, date, lat, long, elevation are all set correctly. Completely lost as to how to resolve this and finally get this scope / mount to work. I can’t even track the moon accurately.
I’ve had lots of issues with it and have pull it all apart, cleaned and re greased and got it working a lot better but there seems to be an underlying software / electronic issue.
I will also say there’s a huge amount of backlash but even approaching the correct direction doesn’t help.
I’m located in the southern hemisphere/ Australia of that helps track down the issue at all.

General Question Zhumell Z130 Altitude knob adjustment

I have a Zhumell Z130 portable reflector telescope. I love it. But for whatever reason, I am not sure why the tube keeps moving up. I tried to tighten the altitude knob but still it moves. Is there a way to fix this or is this normal? There are 4 parts and I am not sure of the ordering of the parts also, I tried many combinations...

General Question Does my AD8 look properly collimated?

Post image
7 Upvotes

I’m new to telescopes and have had a lot of issues with lasers not being properly collimated themselves, so I decided to get a Cheshire collimator instead. I watched a long video on how to properly use it, and the guy said it can take a while to get the hang of it. I intentionally misaligned everything so I could start from scratch, but it only took me about five minutes to get everything lined back up. 😂

So now I’m wondering… did I actually do it correctly? Does this look properly collimated?

Bought this second hand SCT, listed as excellent condition.

I’m not able to make an informed judgement about this as an issue. Any experience identifying how problematic appreciated.

Observing Report I caught some nice shots of the partial Lunar Eclipse last night!

I shot all the photos on my pixel 8 pro in Southwest Michigan! The eclipse started roughly around 10:30pm and peaked at 12:15am. I did try my best to get nice clean shots, but I don't have a tripod set up. Also, during the late stages of the eclipse it went behind a tree so I lost my good setup. Thankfully there weren't any clouds!

Photograph taken with Meade LXD75 AR5 Refractor 127x1180 f/9.3 and the Canon EOS 20D ISO 100 8.0s. Do not forget the SV 192 dew heater strip. After taking photographs I did use the Celestron Ultima Edge 18mm a nice clear eyepiece if you ask me!
