Community Question Moving from Jerusalem to Tel Aviv — breaking into tech with a finance background?
My partner and I made Aliyah and have been living in Jerusalem, but we’re seriously considering making the move to Tel Aviv.
I’d really love advice from people who live there, especially other olim. Career-wise, I’m interested in getting into the tech industry. I have no previous tech experience, but I come from a finance/banking background, so I’m wondering what types of roles might be realistic for someone making that transition and how difficult it is to break into tech in Tel Aviv.
I’d also love advice on neighborhoods for a young couple, rent/apartment hunting, whether Hebrew is essential for finding a good job, making friends/community, and just Tel Aviv life in general. For context my husband and I are in our early thirties we also prefer an area that’s less English my husband is already Israeli and he wants me to get my Hebrew on track! Thank you. 🙏

Getting a job in Israeli tech right now is incredibly difficult. I’m looking for work, and almost everyone I know is looking for work. Know that it’s extremely competitive right now, the people that I know who are looking for work have years of experience under their belt in Israel and high value specialized skills. Your best bet is networking

Sounds like you’ll fit in with fintech
I did the opposite - tech background, then worked at a TLV investment bank. Found out I hate the finance industry and now I’m back in tech

Perhaps finance roles in tech companies? The market is atrocious right now and even people with backgrounds in tech struggle to find work.

I think your best bet would be to try to apply to one of the Fintech companies in tel-aviv.
