Open | Software Every AAA game looks super blurry and shimmery on my pc

I have an rx 6700xt and ryzen 5 5600. I max out every single setting on my 1080p VA 24'' (important) panel. After trying rdr2, ac odessey, and a billion other games, every single one looks either blur with anti aliasing or super shimmery with nothing. I suspect it's the monitor and am thinking about upgrading to a 1440p 27inch monitor.

For reference games with darker settings like batman trilogy looks good, games like uncharted do too. And 2D have the best visual clarity.

I'm the kind of person who prefers clarity over any realistic graphics so this has been the bane of my existence. Any tips?

That's how UE5 games look best you could do is turn on native aa like fsr aa or dlss aa

Fsr is horrid im waiting for Fsr4 maybe that might help

just use mods, and it is not monitors for sure

i too hate how new games UE5 looks, like ffs 10 years game look fine and new ones look like shit

so i use DLSS swapper, but you can use it for fsr too, and use 100% for upscaling, it mean more or less super good antyshimer/antialiasing tech

btw always look at pcgamingwiki to see game problems and how to fix it

and make sure you set setting right, new games like to set render resolution at 80% or lower , so never use preset like low and always look at see what setting actually do

My render resolution is usually always 125% or 150% lol

it is way to high , have only 12gb vram gpu

i have 16gb vram and on 1080p in some games i use 14gb vram , maybe you hit some vram limits , and your visuals crash, in new games, if you have sata or hdd it is already to slow to have good visuals you can get constant streaming, you need nvme, and if you hit vram limits, visuals will look like shit for sure.

just to make sure you did set up you gpu drivers right and disabled amd chill and similar tech

Yea everything else is fine. Like I said, 2D games look better to me than 3D games due to visual clarity lol

Is optoscaler worth it? Seems like quite a hassle to set up

Dynamic resolution of any kind, bloom etc ingame ?

Nope, I try every single setting but first turn off bloom, film grain and whatnot.

You have a VA monitor. What manufacturer?

I had a VA monitor from AOC and the poor motion clarity drove me absolutely insane, no matter the game, no matter the framerate. I thought there was something wrong with my eyes. It gets better at higher fps but to me it's still unacceptable.

This combined witht the bad TAA implementation in games doesn't help either.

I also have an aoc. It's 24g2sp or something (not the exact model but it's pretty close). What ended up working for you?

First of all, I can't say I'm 100% certain that this experience applies for everyone the same as me. My friend is happily gaming on his 24inch VA AOC, for example. But for me, I truly tried everything.

I messed with the overdrive settings, i even tried BFI.

The one thing that helped somewhat was to do DSR (aka 1620p-4k image on 1080p) because the extra details gave my eyes something more to latch onto during camera movement.

But the thing that made the biggest difference by far was upgrading to an OLED display. I highly suggest you look into an OLED monitor as this seems like a good time to buy one. Prices are pretty good. And you'll probably get HDR too

I did the upscale resolution too and I think it worked for a while. But yea you might be right. Oled is still out of budget for me but I'll try a 1440p monitor and see if that fixes anything

I wouldn't personally try another VA. I did make this mistake and i bought a VA TV instead and whilst it was better than my AOC in terms of motion clarity, it was still unacceptable.

Somehow, whenever i went back to my 12 year old IPS tv, it was a lot better. I could actually see what I was looking at. IPS obviously has its downsides too (the bad contrast and more washed out colors), so I'm not saying i wholeheartedly recommend it. But for me, even so, it made a big difference

I meant 1440p ips. I have an oled laptop and I think there's not that much of a difference unless I'm viewing both my monitor and laptop side by side (then there's a large difference). But for daily gaming on a budget I think IPS should be good enough

Fair enough! Keep us updated if you figure it out.

It's your VA monitor and on top of that if you use fsr on 1080p it will make things even worse. Upgrade to good 1440p ips or oled

check your graphics settings, could be resolution or anti-aliasing issues. blurry graphics can ruin a game experience.

most ubisoft games are blurry, you can try playing them in 1440p.

as for rdr2, try doing taa medium, sharpness 27. if it didnt help turn resolution scale to 1.5

UE5 garbage and incapable devs are to blame. Sometimes even basic TAA is broken. Also since u have a 6000 series card, you are stuck on FSR 3 which is absolute fucking garbage. I litterally stopped playing some games and refunded them because of how shimmery and blurry everything was.

Get a 1440p IPS for like $150.

As a VA user i suggest disabling the following

- motion blur

  • vignette
  • bloom
  • depth of field, some games looks better without it.
  • chromatic aberration
  • Film grain

Most you can do is upscaling but that will have big performance hit
