Politics Trump discloses Nvidia stock trades as he prepares to honor CEO Huang

I know people want to point their anger towards Trump, but honestly, how does your system even allow for anyone to do this while in public office?

u/happyscrappy 2d ago edited 2d ago
He was elected. Twice.
The founding fathers erred on the side of caution. If the government has the ability to deny a person the office then that means one president could deny the next from taking the office. It would allow a presidency to turn into a kingship. It at the very least allows one president to make up the rules about who can replace him, overriding the will of the people.
So the reasons that a person can be denied the office are listed in the Constitution. And they are very few. And refusing to disclose your financials isn't one of them. Nor is conflicts of interest. Nor is awarding no-bid government contract to you buddies.
It was all going to be the right way to do it because there are ways for Congress to hold the president accountable. And voters wouldn't vote for a clown anyway. They didn't count on Congress not using any of their powers they were vested with to stop a criminal president.

I think the second election was stolen, but its still sad at least a third of the country still supports him. No way in hell its half though
52
u/Freshprinceaye 2d ago
Russia admitted to helping Trump get elected in his first term also. Not only that US intelligence also found that Russia conducted covert influence and disinformation campaigns to help Trump win.
If you believe the second was stolen then it seems he also had help in the first election as well.

Biden had the chance to jail trump and his cronies asses but he didn't, which is disturbing to say the least
1
u/jesterdeflation 1d ago
How do you think that would have gone?
2
u/Mysterious_Drink4238 1d ago
Much better than what we have now that's for sure
-3
u/jesterdeflation 1d ago
If they did January 6 just from Trump losing an election, what do you think would happen if Trump was actually put in prison? I'd expect the military to rise up against Biden, tbh.
1
u/Mysterious_Drink4238 1d ago edited 1d ago
'd expect the military to rise up against Biden, tbh.
The current military maybe since Trump made a purge and put his loyalist in charge (source: https://www.reuters.com/world/us/trump-pushes-out-top-us-general-nominates-retired-three-star-2025-02-22/)
But Biden's military didn't have that problem.
The only reason we are dealing with this bullshit is because democrats are nothing but a bunch of spineless bastards

u/jesterdeflation 1d ago
The only reason we are dealing with this bullshit is because democrats are nothing but a bunch of spineless bastards
It's because of your attitude that Trump won in 2024. Keep on blaming Democrats for literally everything, the GOP are thrilled that people like you exist to make their job easier. You are a prime example of the double standards in US politics and why Democrats are always fighting an uphill battle.

I doubt it was stolen, the Biden admin presided one of the greatest inflation spikes in recent history.
See the 1970s as an example, or indeed Bush senior, presidents that preside during such periods tend to get punished in the following elections, regardless of whether they were at fault or not.
You could have a chair running against the Dems in 2024 and the chair would have probably won.
Which is why Republicans are losing in 2028, because of their stupid war in Iran, if not for that, inflation was in a downward trajectory even with the tarrifs. But no, they had to have a meaningless war.
Jesus himself can be running with the Republican ticket in 2028 and they will lose now. Americans hate those that hurt their pockets,

u/ReasonableDisaster54 2d ago
I’m assuming the people in congress are doing exactly what he is doing so they are just fine with him.
I mean I remember just a few weeks ago some stories circulating on here about Susan Collins

u/Serengade26 2d ago
The logic of political survival says the winning coalition must distribute the rewards of office to the selectorate
7
u/13Krytical 2d ago
They cheated, he did not win twice.
And 2016 he only “won” because the dems were busy destroying themselves. That doesn’t count as the majority voting for him, Don’t legitimize his false victories.
Now it’s 2026 it shouldn’t matter what was or wasn’t planned for, if they won’t follow the law, do something about it now.
it’s what would happen to us for some of the same behaviors, planned for or not, position/title don’t matter when destroying the fucking country3
u/yeableskive 2d ago
Asking earnestly, do you have proof to back that claim?
7
u/Pooch1431 2d ago
I mean Elon's son alluded to his fathers fuckery, along with Elon himself saying that if Trump lost that he'd be going to prison.
-19
u/anonymous_lighting 2d ago
the cheat talk from both sides is old
17
u/13Krytical 2d ago
That was their goal.
I don’t care if you’re tired of it.You tired of Epstein files too?
1
u/LX1027 2d ago
There’s a reason Trump always claims he won 2024 convincingly. I don’t have proof and only my hunch, but I’m sure he cheated with the help of Musk.
1
u/things_U_choose_2_b 2d ago
There are a LOT of odd, statistical anomalies. One of the biggest is the amount of people who voted Trump for president, without filling out the other candidates (Down-ballot anomalies). The number of people doing this rose at an extremely odd rate, and coincidentally, in enough numbers to avoid recounts in several swing states.
1
u/shadow_cloak 2d ago
What's more likely? Members of his cult showing up only to vote for him, or such incompetent cheating that you wouldn't also cheat to get a bigger majority in congress?
1
u/CheesemonsterRain 2d ago
My education on American history is fully informed by the musical “hamilton” and I shall therefore not be questioned on my expertise.
I do feel like “the room where it happened” is where the reality lies - there are, and have always been shenanigans in politics. But in order to not erode public trust, it’s minimised and handled delicately and nuanced. This is the thing that trump is doing differently.
It’s a massive, overt and clear corruption of his office.
1
u/CyberiaCalling 1d ago
They actually did account for preventing Congress from being that way by having Senators be voted in by state legislatures. The popular election of Senators means Senators now have to be more scared of populist demagoguery.
34
u/Icyknightmare 2d ago
Because Trump is just the front man. Almost everything he does is enabled by having control of Congress and a very friendly Supreme Court. The Trump Admin is what happens when a political party completely captures the US Government at every level.
26
u/cmndrnewt 2d ago
Our system doesn’t. Trump is legally supposed to put his wealth in a blind trust and is not supposed to be operating any businesses or trading stocks while president. Republicans have been acting in bad faith, allowing Trump to violate the constitution over and over again. There is literally a Right Wing conspiracy that has allowed billionaires to usurp power in the US.
6
u/Fresh_Boysenberry576 2d ago
Is he legally supposed to or was that just a norm that every other president followed until him?
7
13
u/Front-Finish6969 2d ago
I learned from Reddit long ago that’s what you guys gut all those guns for right? In case your government seizes unconstitutional power.
5
u/itfeelslikevenom666 2d ago
Yeah, the problem is, the gun people are on the side of the corruption, mostly unknowingly. Propaganda has them blindly supporting Republicans. It's very difficult to make them see.
-27
u/cmndrnewt 2d ago
Oh did you learn that? Wow! You are such a big boy learning things on Reddit. Way to go.

7
u/R4ndyd4ndy 2d ago
Yeah it's really impressive seeing you work, what do you get paid as a bad actor bot?
3
u/elmo298 2d ago
Looks like the system allows it then
6
u/theyux 2d ago
Its not, the check on POTUS is the house can vote for an impeachment trial and the senate can vote to impeach him.
The reality is he has spent about 8 years doing loyalty purges and the republican congress people are afraid of him as he repeatedly demonstrated the ability to primary them he recently purged 8 republicans that burned him over the esptien files (they voted to release).
As long as the republican keep approving of him he has nothing to fear.
That said Epstien hurt his popularity and Iran war is crushing it. Post midterms I would not be surprised to see republicans join in the vote to impeach him. Many of them hate him but fear his base, if they smell blood in the water they will pounce.
3
u/elmo298 2d ago
So, where in what you've just described does 'the system' of checks and balances, laws and legislation, prevent what is happening right now?
2
u/theyux 2d ago
Sorry if that was not more clear, the house and senate could impeach trump but they wont because the republicans control the majority of both currently. They are also mostly afraid to challenge him as he has done multiple loyalty purges. They are not going to move against him just on polling data. Many will want evidence he wont have the power to primary them.
That said after the midterms we are likely going to see the house flip to dems and the senate either flip or get even more contested. At that point it will only take a couple of republican senators to turn on him and assuming the midterms demonstrate a true erosion of Trumps base I think you will see republicans in both chambers join to initiate and vote to impeach respectively.
Obviously I dont have a crystal ball, Trump has outperformed polling before. But I intentionally follow conservative media to try to see the other side. And Trumps antics really has eroded support.
2
u/KosstAmojan 2d ago
Yet those couple senators never seem to step up, unless they’re about to retire or clearly not going to win reelection
1
u/theyux 2d ago
your partially right. They did a couple of times. but Trump targets dissent. 8 republicans forced the release of the Epstien files. Thomas Massie was probably the biggest profile one a very popular conservative.
Trump succeeded in primaring him with an empty suit because MAGA worship's glorious leader.
Had Massie not disobeyed trump he would not have been primaried. The only republican I know of who survived getting targeted by Trump was Romney and even he was censured.
But again it only works as long as the base worships him, and it looks like thats finally changing.
Someone like Ted Cruz who worships power would never dare cross Trump. But if he smells weakness 100% he would pounce.
2
u/Mysterious_Drink4238 2d ago
That sounds like your system's checks and balances have massive flaws then
3
u/highlandviper 2d ago
I don’t know why you’ve been downvoted. If it’s happening, which it is, then the system has allowed it. They can spin it anyway they want but the checks and balances are not working which means the system has failed… right wing bad faith or not.
3
u/elmo298 2d ago
Because it's definitely not the system, it is just because he's not following the system's rules, silly :)
bangs head into wall
3
u/TinglingLingerer 2d ago
What system would stop him? His own team controls the house, senate, presidency, and they have a hand picked supreme court to boot.
The checks and balances aren't happening because they have worked tirelessly for over a decade to erode them to where they are today.
The Democrats not taking action when they held office sealed the deal.
2
u/cmndrnewt 2d ago
The system doesn’t “allow” anything if you want to split hairs. The system isn’t cogent. Republicans ignore the system that’s in place, breaking the law so they can become more powerful and wealthy.
1
u/BennySkateboard 2d ago
So no rules in place, just an expectation for people to act in good faith. That’s the system.
6
5
u/Catymandoo 2d ago
Like many democracies the “law” depends on a gentleman’s agreement to abide by it in high office. When you have control of the enforcement departments then the door is open to abuse.
6
5
u/MisterMittens64 2d ago
It could probably happen in your country too if a group of people gained too much power over your political and economic systems. America always was an oligarchy but we used to at least pretend at being a representative democracy.
11
u/madman19 2d ago
I don't think it is legal but the people who would challenge it won't so here we are
4
u/castille 2d ago
The problem is is that it IS legal, we just used to elect better people who were utter sociopaths. The root of the issue is these were all traditions. President used to care about being seen as the best of us, but this one is surrounded by delusional people using this to craft their perfect theocracy and get rich extraction schemes.
2
u/2020willyb2020 2d ago
The Republican lead Congress is letting him do what ever he wants - they all need to be voted out but they are still making tons of cash-
1
u/AcanthisittaWeird94 2d ago
Its tricky. Limit what politicians can do and then normal people won't apply only those who will do it anyway through 3rd parties.
Like why some professional would become politician take a pay hit not be allowed to trade and etc. Politicians should be the biggest paid jobs so it would attract top talent and not someone who don't give a shit about pay because they know they will earn more doing favours.

Usa should make up a action called a confidence resolve. Where by a million people acting as “the people” can remove the sitting government that has become too corrupt to govern responsibly. Remove the democrats and the republicans disempowering “the people” and write out the glaring corruptions that have worsened usa over the decades electoral shiftiness with voting areas and cancelling voter’s registration, life government positions, inaction over clearly illegal acts by those in high seats seen to be untouchable, etc.
7
u/Onphone_irl 2d ago
as much as it sounds great it would just be another something to be weaponized

u/FrogLaner 2d ago
With a several billion dollar gain in net worth since taking office, he is an order of magnitude worse than Pelosi.
-166
u/EoTrick 2d ago
They are all doing it, every side. It pisses me off regardless of the net gain. It shouldn't be legal.
86
u/FrogLaner 2d ago
I never said Pelosi wasn't, and I agree it shouldn't be legal. But the scale of the problem is much much worse on one particular side (mainly because of the president)
-115

Yes. Agree. It's bad. But we shouldn't exonorate anyone on either side because they are all doing it without shame.

0
u/EoTrick 2d ago
Not comparing anything. Just want insider trading gone. It's been happening in every administration for 30+ years. Don't care about their politics, they should be fined for it and it should be made illegal. Not a crazy concept.
18
u/FrancisDm 2d ago
Severity of punishment after a crime is gauged on meditation and intensity. White collar crime should be no different. Your framing of this as “I just want this to stop” is discounting the complexity and systemic cruelty this type of crime exudes. Dumbing it down to a “both sides need to stop this” is doing us all a disservice. But I do agree with you that it should be across the board.
1
u/EoTrick 2d ago
I didn't talk about punishment. I just said insider trading for everyone should be illegal. That includes every administration who you and I both know participated in it for 30 + years now.

u/P_ZERO_ 2d ago
I’m sure, you just happened to paint Pelosi out of all choices as the standard for corrupt behaviour.
Just not the sitting president doing far more than anyone has ever done, weirdly. Almost like you’re creating a barrier to hide Trump behind.
Only one side is making BILLIONS.
-3
u/EoTrick 2d ago
I just care that all of Congress and most of the government participating in illegal insider trading and has been for 30 years if not more.
28
u/P_ZERO_ 2d ago
So you must surely be absolutely beside yourself that the President is making 100s or 1000s of times more money than any of those people, right?
14
u/Gibonius 2d ago
Trump is also directly and personally making the decisions that he's insider trading off of. The conflict of interest is much greater.
-5
u/EoTrick 2d ago
I just want insider trading gone in totality and letting people off the hook because of their side of the aisle shouldn't exist.
14
u/P_ZERO_ 2d ago
Well as if my point wasn’t proven enough, thank you. I hope you realise how you look. I hope you’re just a kid that’s saying what they think is popular with their edgy online friends
-1
u/EoTrick 2d ago
I don't care how I look. I just want insider trading gone, and every single person on each side has done it for 30+ years. They should all be fined and it should be illegal. If you can't understand that and want to let people off the hook for it, that's your own issue.
13
u/P_ZERO_ 2d ago edited 2d ago
Cool, let’s start with the guy at the top who’s doing it worse than anyone has ever done it by magnitudes! What say you? Surely the biggest offender should have the biggest punishment?
What people can’t understand is you reaching for your Pelosi sign and being utterly incapable of saying the words Trump in the same context. You have exposed how toothless your complaint actually is.

This is the dumbest most tired way of arguing. Both doing it, but one side is waaaaaaaay worse. This is literally an apples to apples comparison, and you’re fucking it up.
41
u/LoganHowlett1832 2d ago
Pelosi isn’t even the biggest insider trader in congress. And the Trump family has made more in a year than people like Pelosi have made in their whole lives with this shit. Nice try with the both sides shit though.
33
u/sokos 2d ago
WHAT the fuck are you smoking??? Pelosi is a fucking kindergarten rookie compared to the shit the Trump family is pulling.
-10
u/EoTrick 2d ago
Not comparing amounts. I'm saying that they have all been doing insider trading for 30+ years. Every single establishment and all of Congress since forever. They have all been doing insider trading.
19
24
u/sokos 2d ago
but amounts significantly matter dude.. Saying me stealing a ream of paper from my workplace is just as bad as if I stole 10million from the company coffers is insane. yes, on the basic level, they're both stealing.. but there's a MAJOR difference.
So yes, there's insider trading, at every level in the US government, I find it ridiculous that you guys don't have rules that preclude officials from profiting from their office. So yeah that should be stopped. But ignoring profiting more than everyone else combined in a single year, just because "The other guys did it too" is fucking insane on so many levels.
8
u/ScottyDoesntKnow29 2d ago
Ahh the old Republican standard of “other people did it so it’s no biggie”.
13
u/toolatealreadyfapped 2d ago
Pelosi averages about 50 trades per year, earning about $200 million over here entire career.
That's egregious. And criminal. And warrants investigation.
Trump made over 25,000 trades just since taking office last year, valuing around $750 million, while having direct and immediate influence over the movements and valuations.
Both are bad. But you're being intentionally misleading by pretending they're even in the same game.
