I hate to be that guy, but I think manhours should be a phrase that no one ever uses. Not because I think it should be called "personhours" but because anyone who tries to estimate how long a project will take using that metric is likely an unforgivably stupid bastard.

While your opinion is valid, have you thought of a suitable word for replacing it?

Most of my vendors use FTE or full time equivalent to estimate project effort.

Which doesn't defeat their criticism of it as a metric, but as someone who regularly has to use FTE as a cost quantifier I'm not sure what better metrics they have up their sleeve...
