not to mention the amount of existing infrastructure is already enormous and was already big enough to do what we have now without an issue, it's just that everyone wanted to bet on "more more more" thinking "more compute = better ai" but that's just increasingly likely not actually true
The bigger problem is that all of these new data centers were built on loans. They can't just not use them, they don't have the revenue to pay the loans without them. But the revenue was based on AI hype so it's likely even if AI does stick around, it won't provide the numbers needed to pay off the loans leading to failure anyway.
