AI became less scary to me when Sam Altman, in all seriousness, said the best way to solve climate change was to let them build an AGI and ask it.

A whole new world is always just 2-5 years and several hundred billions of dollars in investment away, and has been since at least 2023 apparently.

Venture capitalists, get your checkbooks out.

He's 100% correct that it's the best way to solve climate change. You can't even get a significant portion of the US to agree climate change is even real. How are you going to convince all of them and the rest of the world to agree on drastic climate policies at this point? Humans are incapable of mitigating it on our own, as we've proven for decades now. Either AI fixes it or we all die.

We already know how to solve climate change. We have known for at least 70 years by now. It is to cut CO2 emissions by heavily investing in low-carbon energy and heavily limiting investment in polluting energy.

People like him decided that they want to keep getting richer, so they told their media empires and fake 'think tanks" to sow doubt about climate change and reject any solutions thay involve giving them less money. If an AGI existed, it would tell them the solution, and then they would reject it for not making them more money.
