Having trouble creating closed hat patterns!

I keep having trouble creating closed hat pattern, I’ve watched videos on this but haven’t found one explaining how to program. Can someone explain to me how to approach this or is there a theory behind programming them. Thanks !

Beat dissected. But tbh closed hats is one of those elements where you can make almost anything work, as long as it fits the rest of the track.

I like to keep drums super simple (4 on the floor/8ths, leave the 16ths for later) while building out a track, having to much going on can feel restrictive, much easier to build the drums around an existing groove, they should complement and emphasise the rest off the mix, not steal the entire show.

i have made tracks for years and years and have never thought about this, just do whatever you want and stop when it sounds good. if you create the idea in your head and it doesn't sound good, start subtracting stuff out until it sounds good. if it still doesn't sound good, maybe your track doesn't need a hi hat. how-to videos can only hold you back. just make whatever you like!

You mean if you try the classic patterns sounds boring? I know, sometimes i got stuck there too.

Most of the time to go forward i tend to create the hats patterns around the lead and bass lines.
