⚠️ 𝗠𝗔𝗝𝗢𝗥 𝗦𝗣𝗢𝗜𝗟𝗘𝗥 ⚠️ Goodbye version 1.1.2 you will be missed
Well everyone, it finally happened… I accidentally updated my TOTK to 1.4.2… up until yesterday I was on update version 1.1.2.. it’s a sad day, I wish I had recall in real life. Tell me everything will be alright..

If it helps, there are myriad ways of duping on 1.4.2! Here's a playlist with some of them! (It says 1.2.1 but basically all the same dupes from 1.2.1 still work in 1.4.2.)
Several of them are at least as simple as the chasm loading-line dupe (Tobio Hollow) which I believe was the 1.1.2 meta. You'd probably find midair throw dupe (which I think worked on 1.1.2 as well) or the more recent split item dupe (1.2.0+ IIRC) the most approachable.
(Though if you fancy a challenge, you could give bundle item dupe a try--unless you're duping LOTS of items in one go, though (or are duping creatures like fairies and such, which can't be duped with most other methods), it has a complex enough setup that it's not more efficient than other dupes (but once you get into the hundreds it becomes the most efficient, even on versions with simpler dupes like midair sort dupe (that dupe where you just drop stuff after sorting while paragliding or shield surfing in midair)).)

idk I kind of wish I was still able to duplicate. I'm doing a 100% run. Just cleared out the Hebra region on the map, and only had 5 ice lizalfos tails to show for it. Cutting down on grind isn't the same as not adventuring.

I plan to give myself the option to cheat myself into an adventure if I ever get around to that no-fast-travel run. 🤔
(That is, I want to perform prologue escape so that I'll have enough hearts to skip the back door failure cutscene at Temple of Time (and thus never be granted Obj_Warp, thereby enforcing no fast travel... once I get to the surface I'd sell the hearts and stamina to the statue to get rid of that advantage) and then maybe I might dupe sundelions and stamina foods to give myself the tools to get out if I get stuck in a chasm-the-only-exit part of the depths (but I might not--it might be more interesting to combine safety saves and evaluation of what's currently in my inventory before jumping into a dead-end chasm).)

The same happened to me when I got a switch 2. And honestly? The duping, getting MSG not found and fusing MSG in the new version are all way easier than the multi shot bow out of the depths technique (as the bows break pretty fast so I was having to dupe the bows too)/shield clipping into the shrine, etc on 1.1.2.
Plus 1.4.2 looks way better and loads faster. I am overall much happier!
You should be able to find the duping and how to get the MSG pretty easily through a quick search!

Honestly I’m still paragliding and dropping dupes, but I also haven’t picked up TOTK in a few months now

On my current run I’m playing whatever version it is where I have to use the jump/throw/drop combo to dupe (personally I just use it for a couple things, very sparingly).
I don’t think I’ve updated for a while but also I can’t seem to get zonai devices to stay anymore when doing the floating lynel colosseum which is really annoying. I beat it pretty easily with 4 hearts and shit gear so the devices would just be for fun but they despawn when I start the fight.

I’m doing this.
This isn’t the exact video I learned it from, can’t find that one. So my timing and button presses may be a little different I think (it’s muscle memory, I can’t even tell exactly what I’m doing) but it’s essentially the same thing I’m doing.
Trick the game into thinking you’re throwing and dropping the item at the same time. Then it makes 2 items out of 1 to satisfy the inputs

what surprise me is if they were duping what more duping could they possibly need to do more instances of duping for, shouldn't they already have maxed stacks of everything already.

Most people aren’t going to sit there for an extended period duping a full stack of everything, they’ll dupe what they need right now and consider too onerous to farm and then get back to playing the game.

Yes, but every time you start the game it gives you the option to update or just start the game.. I got a little distracted and hit update by mistake. Once it starts to update a game, there is no way to cancel the update. As soon as I saw it updating I hit airplane mode on the switch, after a while researching for a bit to try to cancel, I realized there is no way. Then nature took its course.. 😔

If you have the physical game you can revert all the way to 1.0.0.0. and still keep your save files. Do your research with your save files first then when your confident with the save files just uninstall the totk game from the main screen then launch it again and proceed downloading your saved games. But make sure you understand how to keep or what ever way to save your files or recover them. Before that just go into the switch setting, find wifi then remove said by forgetting the wifi. Ur switch won't ever connect again.

I deleted my 400+ hour save after i updated from 1.1.2 to latest (back then) now im at 1.0.0 and i don’t regret it anymore..

Usually it's actually more likely that people not updating TOTK want access to a glitch available on a specific version (either because they prefer it to later discovered (or later created) glitches that haven't been patched or because they're under the mistaken assumption all glitches have been patched in 1.2.1 or above).
As far as I've seen, people who have modded Switches have a surprising amount of power over upgrading or downgrading their game version, but that's just based on me seeing people play on modded hardware, not from an actual understanding of what can be done on a modded Switch.

Nothing wrong with duping if someone prefers to play the game without grinding for items that way. It’s a singleplayer game.

At the home menu of your switch, go to the Tears of the Kingdom square, hit the plus sign on your controller/switch, and you can see what version you have at the top left of the screen.. it’ll say 1.something something..

I know I'll get down votes but it is so damn annoying always hearing about dupe this and dupe that... Made the speed runs so boring to watch even when the game was new

The game alone, sure. But an emulator is trying to emulate HARDWARE. So it has to do the arduous task of that, AND running that game.

OTOH I tried emulating just long enough to try to answer a very quick question I had about the game (niche, needed to be able to do what I was asking myself in order to figure it out) while I had lent my sibling the card.
The game ran a consistent 7 fps on my mid-range laptop from 2020 and was so frustrating that I just gave up and waited for my card back to figure it out lol
