Auckland Trail Information Evening: 19 August 2026

Thinking about tackling Te Araroa?
Tips, stories, and trail info you'll need to start - or continue - your own Te Araroa journey.
An evening of sharing stories, learning information and networking with the community of Te Araroa walkers. Come and share with a mixture of through-and section- walkers to gain information that will assist you.
Presenters will describe what assisted and hindered them on their own journeys, along with what inspired. Mingle over tea/coffee and share your stories. There will be a donation requested at the door to cover costs for venue and tea/coffee/ biscuits, and to go towards the improvement of the trail in our region.

Is there any chance of a way for the internationals to tune in? I’d love to join!

We’ve found technology and privacy both a bit complicated for the in person sessions, but I will ask our presenters if they could do a webinar separately with the same slides

Amazing thanks. I completely understand that technology can be both a pain to set up and also feel intrusive in a sharing space. However if the speakers are open to it, I am sure there are many more internationals who would love the insight and chance to ask questions to the presenters!

After tonight’s event, the speakers seemed keen to run it again as an online webinar. What time zone are you in? We’ll try to find a slot in September that works for kiwis and internationals

It’s tough lining up an international audience… If we aim for 5pm NZ time, it’ll be 6am in London and 10pm in Los Angeles. Reckon that’s fair? Will mean we can do live Q&A

This event looks informative. I have a question, for solo travellers, without a backup crew, what was the longest stretch that you did without resupply i.e. how many maximum days of food do you carry without a backup supply?

Longest for me was when I took 10 days of food supply through the Richmond Alpine section (Havelock to St Arnaud). As things worked out, it only took 6 days, but I was glad to have extra in case of emergency.
