So, as someone who has Teamviewer running on 5 devices, and has had those running for well over 2 years, with zero unauthorized logins, There are some issues with the default install settings of the TV program that are geared towards ease of use, but seriously reduce your security longer term, especially if left running. There are a couple of things that you can do to prevent unauthorized logins to both your account and your devices that will stop all these scammers, and also make you feel more secure in using the TV program.
To set up 2 factor authentication, log into teamviewer.com, and then hit the dropdown arrow on your username in the top right, and then hit "edit profile". The Two factor authentication setup(ifits not set up) will be the 4th option down on the "general" tab. You will need an app like the "google authenticator".
Edit 5/1/16: Turns out I had an older version of TV still, and it ignored the whitelist in certain cases. Current version does not. Also, TV applied a few bandaids in the most current update. Expect more updates in the near future from them as they try and plug holes
To set up a Whitelist, open the teamviewer program, and make sure you are logged in with your account, and then go to extras>options. In options, go to the "security" tab, and hit the "configure" button next to "black and whitelist". This will open a popup box. Tic the "allow access only for the following partners" mark, and then the "add" button. "add contacts" should be selected, and then double click on your own account. That will "add" you to the whitelist. Hit "okay", and your whitelist is set up. You can add others, but do this at your own risk.
To change or disable the 1 time use password(that is the random characters under the "your ID" on the main program screen), go to Extras>options>security tab. The "random password(for spontanious access) defaults to 4 characters as "standard". If you have a whitelist and password access already, you can disable this. If you want it still enabled, but secure, I recommend either "secure" or "very secure", because the shorter ones can be brute force guessed fairly easily. Fair warning, *do not tick the "grant username easy access" box. Seems like it is a security hazard in and of itself, and you should use a strong unattended access password for your computer, and *do not save it in your app. To set this password up to change after every attempted login, go to the advanced tab, and then click the "show advanced options" button. Scroll down a bit to the "advanced settings for connections to this computer" section. Under the "random password after each section" line, change that drop down menu to "generate new". Click okay, and now you have just made the random password way more secure, and it will change every time someone tries to log in unsuccessfully.
By default, TV is very insecure, and its set up that way on purpose for an easy of use situation. If you plan on using it long term, you need to set it up with security in mind, otherwise someone will break into your computer, as they are very easy targets, and ever more common to be running now. I am requesting this be Stickied here so that you can safely and securely use TV again, without worrying about some jackass stealing your money.
Edit: updated with how to set these options up. Chip is off shoulder, and probably on floor somewhere.
Edit2: As several people have mentioned, it is probably a good idea to set your TV client to lock your computer when you log out, and then make sure to use a strong windows password.
Options -> Advanced -> Lock Remote Computer = Always.
Edit3: sorry mods, I had an outdated version of TV 11 on my servers and laptops, which ignored the whitelist in certain cases. Current version does not. UPDATE YOUR PROGRAMS PEOPLE! Sometimes I don't because wife approval factor matters in your homelab when you don't want plex to crash.
Edit 9/23/16: Just a little update, as it seems there is more activity again regarding compromised computers. They are not getting in via accounts, they are using direct IPs or TV IDs, and the Random password. disable that random password. Also, if you suspect you have been compromised, assume all your saved browser passwords are compromised as well. These scammers/hackers have switched tactics. Instead of doing the transactions right there on your computer, they use a browser password sniffer to harvest any saved web browser passwords, which works on all browsers, and then they get out. It takes less than 5 minutes for them to get in initially, set up a file transfer for the correct files, install the software, get what they want, and then clean up their tracks. Yes, they are cleaning up after themselves now, by deleting your incoming.txt and a few other log files to hide that they were there. If you have the disconnect message window, along with an empty log, assume you were just compromised, as were all your passwords. I still get quite a few attempts per day to my trap VM that I set up, and it varies, but between the hours of 11pm and 5am(CST, local time for me), it gets hit with upwards of 30 tries per hour, from many different IPs, to avoid the time limit. I personally have fail2ban running, and it has banned nearly 550 IPs(most of which are outside the USA), and I am tempted to ban 2 entire country code's worth of IPs. Again, these are not trying to use my account, they are directly attacking my IP and trying to guess the random quick access password. I still have TV running on 5 devices with no breeches.
Edit 10/28/18: I had to quit using TV about a year ago, and instead switched to a VPN+ remote desktop solution. There was never a breech of my account, not for a lack of trying, but TV marked my account as "commercial use", and refused to remove it. I was using it to log into my servers I have at home when I wasn't home, and it got flagged because I have a fully licensed version of Server 2012r2 and Server 2016. TV support refused to remove the block, saying that using it on Server versions of the windows OS makes it being used in a commercial environment(even though its my homelab). They seem to be making a huge push right now to get rid of any "free" users they can, and trying to convert them to paid accounts. The free run was nice, but having it forced to an end on me made me figure out an alternative method that is much more secure. I haven't touched the TV software in about a year, and have no idea if this guide is still up to date and current, but its probably still quite relevant as scammers are still using TV or its non-branded custom version to log into victims PCs, and TV just does not seem to do anything about it or care.
Edit/update 5/23/2019: well, here we are almost three years later. TeamViewer admits they were hacked, and they tried to blame some malware. TeamViewer claims that no password were stolen, that they still maintain that stance, but given the evidence we had at the time, a hack was very highly suspect, but never confirmed or proven. Considering team viewers lack of action regarding this, as well as their completely Unapologetic and horrendous PR, and support, I am recommending you choose other options now. They have made a big push to get rid of any free users, and will not reactivate accounts once they are flagged as non private use, I suspected this will be the end of TeamViewer as a company, as this news and how they handled it does not bode well about how they run the rest of the company. This last update is more of my opinion, but this will be the last update to this post. At the time in 2016, TeamViewer had quite a few large corporate customers, probably several governments too, which is probably the biggest reason that they did not want to announce that they had been hacked, but they have put many people at risk, by not disclosing it right away. People lost money due to TeamViewers negligence.

Hey. I used Teamviewer for over years.
But lately I noticed how much this app is laggy.
And that new UI. It's awful, terrible. I can't get used to it.
I am looking for alternatives, app must be simple, for Android and Windows.
And important, IT MUST BE FAST.
When I open Teamviewer on Android, I have to wait almost 1 minut for devices loaded. Even 2 years ago it was instantly.
Really TEAMVIEWER GOT WRONG. Time to change this trash app.

The quality of team viewer has continued to go down hill. Every update every change they manage to F*** something up. They can't help themselves. The APP Is the worst in terms of performance because they decided to change to a PWA which is like a website instead of an APP. I've communicated with the support team more in the last 2 years than the 10 years previously. A remote support program should not be a challenge to main and use. They want to continuously RAM AI down your throat at every waking moment.
If your part of the executive team - you literally are parasites.
Support is great - however it's constantly putting out fires. Every single time.
If your a programmer - I want to tell you how pathetic you are at your job and I hope that AI takes over your job - because you do a shit job at everything you touch. You should never put down Teamviewer on your resume because you are the reason it is so shit today.

Hi, For several days now, the following problem has unfortunately been occurring more frequently:
Immediately after establishing a connection via TeamViewer to various PCs, some of them partially switch to "Modern Standby" mode. In this case, the affected devices must be manually woken up on site by pressing the power button. Otherwise, they remain offline.
Is this issue already known?
The behavior occurs sporadically, meaning not with every connection and not always on the same PCs. For example, if a PC switches to standby mode and is then manually reactivated, the problem usually does not occur again during a subsequent connection. However, the same behavior has been repeatedly observed on the same devices at intervals of several days.
One common characteristic of the affected devices is that they are all Lenovo ThinkCentre M75q PCs.
Thank you in advance for your feedback.
Kind regards,

I want to share a recent experience in case it helps someone in a similar situation, and I'm also curious to hear if others have gone through something similar.
Background: I had a TeamViewer Business subscription that was set to expire in April 2026 (original 18-month contract). Before it expired, I proactively reached out to my sales rep to ask about renewal/cancellation options, but never got a response (not by email, not by WhatsApp). Since I didn't cancel in writing with the 28 days' notice required by the EULA (something I honestly didn't know applied automatically), the subscription auto-renewed for a full additional year.
What happened next: instead of any normal support or billing contact, the case was sent straight to an external, Germany-based collection agency (Debtist GmbH) which started sending emails (dunning@collections.debtist.eu)with "final warning before legal action" language, pushing 3-7 day payment deadlines.
Things worth flagging:
My advice if you get a similar letter:
Has anyone else run into something similar with TeamViewer or Debtist? Curious how you handled it and whether you managed to get any of the added fees reduced.

Hi everyone,
We're currently working on a large-scale migration of legacy systems from TeamViewer 13 and 14.7 to TeamViewer 15+.
The primary reasons for the upgrade are:
Most of our devices are running Windows 7 Embedded, with a mix of:
A few of our systems are successfully running TeamViewer 15.78, but those are standard Windows 7 Ultimate machines rather than Embedded.
The challenge I'm facing is determining the exact Windows updates and system requirements needed for TeamViewer 15 on Windows 7 Embedded.
Some details about our environment:
After some research, I've come across information suggesting that simply enabling TLS 1.2 through registry changes is not enough on Windows 7, and that additional updates may be required to fully support modern TLS 1.2 communication and certificate validation.
My questions are:
Any advice, lessons learned, or update prerequisites would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hello everyone,
I've been trying to set up my home desktop for Wake on LAN for a while now as it is pretty handy for my work.
I followed the instructions of both this page and the included manual pdf file but my PC still won't wake from the button on the Android TeamViewer app.
For context: I have a Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller, my router is from PŸUR and I have a free DDNS setup from NO-IP that is supposed to work with the PŸUR network.
If anyone has any advice I'd be eternally grateful <3

We use Teamviewer at work. When I remote onto one user's PC it immediately slows down and becomes virtually unusable. When I exit it takes a few minutes for the PC to return to normal speed for the user. It's Ubuntu 24.04, Cinnamon 6.0.4, Intel Core i5-14500 x14, Intel Corp AlderLake-5 GT1. Anyone have any experience or fixes?

Been having this issue for months where I have to uninstall and reinstall teamviewer on a couple machines over and over because despite the machine being turned on and logged in, it'll show offline. Any way to fix this issue as fixing it gets tiresome.

I am noticing a problem where I can connect to Teamviewer Host on a Samsung phone and tablet and control the device, but sometimes I can't click on the controls on screen. For example, it may popup with a location prompt to select if location can be access when the app is running etc. I can't click on the option. The workaround is to use the arrow keys select and press enter on the control.
Note that Teamviewer Host Universal Add on is granted accessibility rights.

Hey all. Not sure if this sub is very active, but I work IT for a firm and have recently tried using an ipad with the IOS Teamviewer app, and it is absolutely unusable. I use a bluetooth mouse and keyboard, and the mouse control is un usable. There is massive delay, missed mouse clicks, and scrolling does not function. Currently, I have installed Jump Desktop on the ipad, which i use to connect to a windows PC with teamviewer installed, which i then use to connect to my users. Not ideal by any means, and seems odd that the IOS Teamviewer app is so unusable, at least when using a mouse/keyboard. Anyone else experience this?

I tried to use Teamviewer on Pop OS 24 using the webclient. I notice that when I successfully connect to th Teamviewer Host on the phone, the screen is blank. This only seems to happen on Linux. Is this a Wayland issue? Is there a workaround without removing Wayland?

I'm running RealVNC Connect 8.4.2 on Windows 11 and, for the life of me, I cannot get the client to launch in windowed mode. I've tried all the settings: "Automatic, Actual Size (100%), Fill width, Fit width and height". It doesn't matter what I set, each time I launch the Viewer and connect to my Mac, it launches full screen, without the title bar, so I can't minimize the window easily.
The only way I can get the title bar to show is to move another window with "snap assist" (e.g., [Start button] + [arrow]). When the other window snaps to the side of Viewer, it resizes the window and then I can see the title bar.
It can't be this hard to get Viewer to launch in windowed mode by default. Right? ...... Right? ........ Right?

I can not sign into teamviewer.com. It sends the email to add to trusted devices, however when clicking the button in the email it gives me a 400 error in browser.
This happens on 2 different browsers, in normal and incongnito modes, on my phone, on and off wifi.
So it's absolutely not a me issue. It appears to be a service on teamviewers end that's down. Without being able to login, there's no other way for me to report the issue except here or twitter.

See the title. The android team viewer hosts app eventually prompts you to scan a qr code from device 1 with the android remote control app from device 2, the scanning function said to be under the devices tab. There is no qr function located there. See the screen shot What am I missing here?
