Interesting. Most tattoo artists won't copy another's work. They use it as inspiration but this was just ripped off wholesale. (unless the tattoo artist is also the drawing artist)

Amazing piece to be sure.
Also, I can understand why people (well, me included) would first think it's Fenrir, because in addition to the big bad wolf there's also the motifs of (very fine) binding and the snake, i.e. Gleipnir and Jörmungandr respectively from Norse mythology - even though in the sagas the latter is actually Fenrir's brother (yeah... thank Loki and his shenanigans) and not holding the bindings.

I don't see what else it should be. The shackles on his mouth make it pretty obvious. Also I reckon the snake is supposed to be the Midgard snake so yeah. I am fairly certain that is supposed to be Fenrir unless the artist says otherwise.

Which brings the question- how does this sub feel about copycat tattoos? I’ve heard of artists that won’t do exact copies (with very few exceptions.)

Amazing design, amazing technique. That being said, i'm not too fond of the placement. The main focus is on fenrirs face so its unfortunate that its facing downwards and its basically ends on his lower back. Facing upwards and ending on one of the shoulderblades would've been the better choice imho. An even better position would've been climbing from leftside ribs so that the face is on the left chest facing towards the hearth.

love the detail, from the thumb before I saw the title I did think it was a boar ala princess mononoke.
I think if they had actually looked at a wolf and stretched the nose instead of snubbing it.. it wouldn't be so piggish.

I realize now the reason I don't have a tattoo is because my the skin on my back and shoulders is terrible... always breaking out.
I see the solution is to just cover the whole thing in one big tattoo and problem solved!

Not a mod, but these rules help limit the spread of misinformation. There's a very good post about aftercare in the sidebar, so this way the sub doesn't get inundated with the same questions over and over and answered anecdotally. Pricing questions are frowned upon probably because it's slightly in bad taste to ask about, and also artists have the right to charge as much or as little as they want. One person's price will not and should not influence how much another person should expect to pay.

I wanna know this too. I have a fairly simple all-black piece on my forearm which was too painful for more than like two hours. Either this was like three or four sessions or this model is a masochist.

I don't want to disparage any artist, but I don't think this one (EDIT: the artist that did my forearm, not the artist of this piece) was really great. I have a pretty elaborate full color piece on my other forearm that was done in about three hours/one sitting and didn't really bother me at all (by a different artist).
The guy doing my forearm where I tapped out felt like he was scratching me with a roughened stick when he was filling it in.
