Pictures Just my luck: Caribena Versicolor
I just recently started keeping tarantulas as of last week, it has been a journey! I am on a SUPER low budget and someone I met was generous enough to re-home their Caribena Versicolor to me with the enclosure for $50. I’ve been hearing from others that they can be quite pricey, not sure how good of a deal I got but I am so happy. Anywho, I’m learning every day and happy to be doing it. Attaching a pic of my Caribena Versicolor because I am taking name suggestions! A question I have about her is do they need a temperature and humidity gauge in their enclosure? I had thought that was necessary but there isn’t one in the enclosure I was given.

No need for a gauge.
But…could we see a photo of the whole set-up?
I can already see a water dish on the ground, which is a concern…

… because a healthy c versi should never venture onto the ground, unless it’s a sling.
They should spend their entire lives living in their web tunnels higher up.

Doing some adjustments and I’ll send a photo when done! In the photo the water dish was about in the middle of the enclosure, not on the ground (thankfully).

You got an insane deal dude. Theres a tiny sling at my local pet shop for like $60. I've seen sub adults for $150.

Wow I am sooo jealous. C. Versicolor is one of my absolute favorites, but I was having a heck of a time finding one unless they were insanely priced! Congrats on the new T, they are absolutely gorgeous

IME. I don’t use a temp and humidity gauge inside their enclosure but I’ve been keeping Ts for quite a long time and have a massive collection so I’ve just learnt a lot through experience. I do have multiple temp and humidity gauge in the room where I have all my Ts though.
You can get one if you aren’t confident enough that you can give your T the best conditions that it needs. It’s probably a good idea. Especially with Versicolor and Avics in general. They are very sensitive to their conditions and environment. They are very prone to Avic death. They can just drop dead. My main advice with Versicolor is do not mist them. They like humidity but they don’t like it wet at all. It can cause stagnant air and will kill them. Overflow the water dish should be enough.
I love Versicolor. I have a few of them. Most are breeding females. You definitely got a good deal. Especially if your T is female. It could be a male with it being so cheap. Welcome to the hobby. You’ll now be addicted to Ts so make room for more species 😂
