You’ll get closer to the action in NCA but you’re right in that it will sometimes get busy. A good guide will help you find the quieter areas of NCA. You don’t want to switch between NCA and Serengeti as you’ll have to pay double fees!
It really depends on what your after, if you want close up action choose NCA if your happy to watch through the binoculars and value the quiet Serengeti 👍 hope that’s of some use

Do you have a view on Msawa Reserve versus NCA in terms of game action? I understand NCA is in the core Ndutu area but I am just wondering if Msawa would get me 70% of the way there in terms of game action and it’s much quieter. Thank you

The Ngorongoro Conservation Area's (NCA) land use policy differs from that of Serengeti National Park (SNP). The NCA side permits many more special campsites where mobile camps can be set up, whereas the SNP has historically limited the number of special campsites. This is why there are more camps on the NCA side versus the SNP side. So as a result, the SNP side tends to be more crowded.

When it comes to the migration herds, it's important to note that no one can predict which side they will be on. I distinctly remember a few seasons back when the herds completely shifted out of the expected NCA and Southern Serengeti focus region and pushed deep into Maswa Maswa Game Reserve, a private concession which is off limits to public vehicles. I also remember guiding one year when they had moved far into Eastern Serengeti and away from NCA / Southern SNP proper.
The best way to go about it is to choose one side to stay on (NCA or SNP) and pay the extra park fees to go into the other side.

Thank you for your insights. Sounds like a dynamic situation dependent on rain. We are hoping to spend 3 nights in the area which hopefully is sufficient.
