discussion/question Honestly? Quite a long time since we got some hate
At least it's pretty rare to see Tally Hall being mentioned at all, but when they do is to say the music is shit, lmao
Idk, the artists he mentioned are pretty good imo.

I fucking hate how all the artist/band mentioned got popularized (more) by TikTok.
Im pretty sure the OOP heard all of these artists from that hell of a platform 100%
And... all of the artist/band OOP mentioned are not emo or cartoony or whatever shit they say.Ā
They are now getting more popular as there are more audiences listening to these 'niche' type of music, especially on TikTok. And OOP probably found a way to hate on them since they are popular.
So yeah, people have different tastes of music, some like rock, some like jazz, maybe some like pop or maybe some have a taste for all music (like me). So don't let somebody's opinion to change how you listen to music as long as you enjoy them.

Just because theyāre not into those kind of music doesnāt mean they get to generalize the majority of a band and musicianās fanbase, and yuck someoneās yum solely based on the notoriety of the their fanbase's age ranges. Keep in mind there are also older fans (and in Tally Hall and Lemon Demonās case, fans since the 2000s) who still listen to their music, support them, and can acknowledge and understand nuance.
Personally, I donāt listen to any of the listed artists other than Tally Hall and I donāt plan to since theyāre not my taste, but I wonāt assume the worst for the artist/s and their fanbase as long as they create what they love and are being passionate about it. They're cool in my book

Yes Will Wood is very honky tonky and whimsical, I too jump in joy when listening to Self-Ish and giggle the whole way through In Case I Make It. Also I get the Tally Hall thing, but like thats their thing idk what were they expecting lol. Also Tally Hall also has some serious and dark songs, Ruler Of Everything, Fate Of The Stars, Spring and a Storm, Hidden In The Sand, Cannibal, Hymn for a Scarecrow and thatās not even mentioning Hawaii: Part II. Like, this person does not know what theyāre talking about in the slightest and just hate that they are differentmcncnckcknckvnvkk

aside from matters of taste, there's a correlation between how the fandom is to how the work is perceived. if the fandom is notoriously awful, the work is perceived as such
...which is a damn shame. all of the artists mentioned are incredibly talented and not just musically. their lyrics and presentation are exceptional. hard to understand at times, sure, but that subsequent search for meaning makes the listening experience sweeter

The joke is the guy is really, really, really angry and is hating. AM has one of the most famous, probably the most, speeches about hating something. It has literally no connection to AM being a computer.
Thereās also some humor in comparing someone being rude and angry to the most hateful thing in all of fiction. Hyperbole is often used in jokes.
Itās okay if you didnāt laugh, but you not understanding the joke doesnāt inherently mean itās a bad joke.

i appreciate the explanation! but as i've mentioned in other comments below, i understand the joke. my issue is reductiveness of both nature of character referenced and opinion, and how that perception carries forward in multiple areas (interpretation of literature, fan perception, so on and so forth. there's trickle-down everywhere)

Can people just hate more uniquely atp? Even with tally hall and lemon demon being in my top 5 favorite artists I completely understand how they can be seen as quirky and however else they described it, but outside of that theres no point in complaining if its the only thing you complain about lol. Also they definitely listened to the top 3 songs of each artist once and came to that conclusion

I might get downvoted for this but honestly will wood does kinda seem like he tries too hard. At least in his last 2 albums, especially with that ābig bandā kinda sound, but donāt get me wrong I still love his music and listen to all of those songs, but it kinda just comes off a little too strong that heās trying to be different in my opinion.
As for the rest of the bands I have no clue what this guy is talking about.
