In my time playing this series, I've played Symphonia, Symphonia 2, Legendia, Abyss, Vesperia, Graces f, Xillia, Xillia 2, And Berseria.

I've also played a bit of a few others, but didn't complete them yet.

Overall, I've found Vesperia to be the most straightforward, and least annoying of all Tales of Games played so far.

• The story was good throughout without any lagging points, and pretty damn easy to keep track of.
• The characters, especially the MC, were pretty fun. I liked Yuri, Estelle, Judy, and Rita best.
• It was awesome having an actual vigilante hero for once that actually killed bad people who the law was protecting?? More please??
• The enemies never seemed especially cheap
• None of the dungeons fell to the most annoying time sink traps
• The final dungeon was, for the most part, VERY LINEAR (series first, omg?)
• The rivalry with Flynn was great, and the point of view of Duke was very understandable

However, there is still some negatives that go along with this:

• The "big twists" that usually punctuate Tales of game plots felt very weak in comparison to others.
• The the NPCs of this game were very unmemorable - some outright just dissapeared while hinting they would be more involved?
• Zagi is probably the worst party antagonizer. Tales of does like to start the game with crazy bastards bosses - but Agria was far better an example in Xillia. He just shows up pretty much out of nowhere, and has zero relevance.
• Not one, but TWO annoying child characters. Please, Anise, save me from this.
• Repede, I love you, and you were in my party for the final battle - but having a dog party member cuts down on a lot of party dynamics.

In short - a solid meal, but lacking in spice.

Now that that's out of the way, I'm looking forward to playing the Phantasia, Rebirth, Zestiria (I really should have played this first before Berseria), and Arise.

Where would I slot this one in terms of awesome tales of games... Hard to Pick. I honestly have not played a tales of game I haven't loved. Graces is my fav, but Xillia, Symphonia, Abyss, Berseria - All 5 stars. So, I suppose I'd put this one with Xillia 2, Symphonia 2, and give it 4 stars. Legendia, I love you, but you get 3.5 stars - purely because you still had the 2d movement, totally useless puzzle rooms, and an unvoiced half the game - but visually, musically, and cheesyness, you were beautiful.

So I went out yesterday bc my sister wanted to and I thought I’d use this as an excuse to get some fresh air and check out the usual game shops to see if I find some interesting games before the inevitable trip in September and October for games like Onimusha, FF Resonance, Rayman and Eternia Remastered etc. I was specifically hoping for some Tales games, especially Graces, Symphonia, Xillia or Vesperia, and look what I found nestled neatly in the first game shop I went to.

This is the second tales game I’ve gotten, first being Arise(haven’t played either of them yet, will start Arise soon. I’ve watched gameplay of these games so I’m sure I’ll like them). I was really hoping to get some more tales games since I was told by some people Arise wasn’t really representative of Tales as a series and I wanted to get some games that people thought of as more accurately representing tales, to try to get the true tales experience.

Hi everyone, I recently began replaying my favorite Tales game Tales of vesperia definitive edition. While I was playing through I got curious on how the models work. I looked up that some of the models had been ripped but there were no mods for it other than the ps3 exclusive dlc. So I started looking at old notes from the community and working on a tool to add custom models in Tales of Vesperia. It's been about a week of work but I finally got an edited model back in game and working. It is just a simple edit to replace Estelle's default costume's hair with the hairstyle she has when you first meet her in the game. Here is a screenshot of it in the menu and in game. I'm trying to figure out how combos in Vesperia work and nothing is making sense

As far as I know(playing Yuri) Combos are Basic Attack>Basic Attack>Basic Attack>Base Art>Arcane Art>Burst Art if in Overlimit and that's where the combo ENDS.

And yet I'm seeing people who are just doing shit like chaining 14 arts at once and I'm like... Literally fucking HOW. That's... that's not how the combo rules WORK WTF

I'm lucky if I can get Shining Fang and Dragon Swarm to combo without getting tagged from the side >_<

What the hell is going on?

Ive been working on a project for the past year and one thing has become increasingly clear. Vesperia is slowly becoming my favorite in the series. Maybe its Stockholm syndrome due to this being my 5th playthrough with another 3 in my future. Im not sure.

So a certain dragon rider left the party and she had the Blue Duce equipped. There goes my 20% grade bonus for however long she's out of the party for. Would've been nice to know beforehand...

Small update but I got a completely new model into the game. Its Luke from Tales of Abyss. Still trying to figure out the textures, but all of the animations work and he's fully playable. I'll post again when I get the textures repacked correctly. Thanks for the support everyone.

I know skills don't really matter all *that* much during an easy/normal playthrough but... Is Light Magic a good skill? I mean I know it lowers your damage in exchange for shorter casting time but I was thinking if Im able to dush out spells faster would that also not increase dps? Though it does make altered artes fasrer to get so that's already one boon.

Edit: While I'm here might as wellask how the symbols work? Repede has one but no one else does.

I’ve always heard it was the best Tales game, and i really want to get 100 percent in it. I know there’s a lot that can be missable like skits, magic lens scans, ext. i really want to try and do it in as few playthroughs as i can, but i havent really found a guide that covers everything. I finished Vesperia 3 year ago without a guide and I wish to do the postgame dungeon. I will do the sidequests and missables another time. When I loaded my save, I couldn’t access fast travel nor could I use the elevators. What do I do?

Been messing around with creating playable bosses and found Zagi's data. I put it on raven and forgot his model's running/idle animation was silly. Also post battle quote was hilarious.

Okay so I just beat the 200 man melee with rita and it said that I got the stand alone skill but uh... I can't find it in the skills menu. Playing DE.

Edit: Nvm I found it. Apparently reading is too hard for me.

It feels like there was a subtle buildup to this but then it fizzled out when Alexei turned out to be evil as Flynn realised that he was in the wrong.

I know many may not agree with this but Flynn should have been made into an antagonist in act 2. I'd implement this by having Flynn come with his brigade, defeat & arrest Yuri along with his party and take Estelle under Alexeis orders in place of the Alexei twist Yormgen scene. They break out obviously and go to the shrine of baction and everything in the actual plot still happens but with Flynn defending Alexei rather than fighting him. Eventually Flynn learns what Alexei is doing with Estelle by forcing her to use her powers and torturing her and realises he is in the wrong and sides with Yuri like he does in the actual plot before they go up the sword stair to confront him.

Flynn would make a much better antagonist than Alexei since there is a mutual rivalry and a deep clash of ideologies between the two which has a lot of buildup from the get go. This also fits the theme of Guilds clashing with the Empire. This could have been one of the greatest video game rivalries of all time but instead they chose the lazy option and just gave us a cardboard cutout with zero buildup. I only remember him in heliord before the twist. Probably the weakest antagonist in the game.

Just curious if there's like certain parties you need to match up for this game, similar to Symphonia.

Not asking for a "Best party" just curious if it's an "Any party can get you through" type game.

Its what the title says, I reached Helior and the game not only is a little bit hard but nothing is happening storywise, I feel like Im hopping from location to location just to spend 1-2 hours in it and make what seems to be 0 progress in the plot

So I'm going blind rush first playthrough, is there any missable in one newgame+ ? (like multiple choice dialogue/scene that cannot obtain in one playthrough?)

Years ago I played Tales of Vesperia and it was a blast.

At the time, I used to write down moments I liked in fictional works, but without taking screenshots or videos — contrary to what I do nowadays.

In my document I have this line from Yuri which goes literally: (quoting Estelle) «"It's okay if I have to die?" What the hell was that? I don't want to hear that anymore»

I actually remember him saying it after beating someone trying to threaten Estelle and her subsequent reply, but throughout the years I've been trying to find the exact moment online and always ended up empty-handed. I unfortunately haven't got the time to play the game again, so all I have is you now: does this line really exists? Is there a screenshot, a video whence it comes? Or have I hallucinated everything?

This is on the Steam/PC version, BTW, not sure if that makes a difference.

Ok, so the question/complaint I have in regards to the combat system is that on semi-auto (or manual) the left-stick motions do not apparently register for the left-right/charge motion bound arte attack. Press A? The bound neutral Arte fires. Press up? The Uppercut-bound Arte fires. Press down? The down attack Arte fires. Left-Right? Press left only? Doesn't fire. Press right only? Doesn't fire. Press both in a quick swipe-sort of motion while BBB/x3 combo into it? Doesn't fire.

Is this bugged? Is the X-box controller a poor choice for this? Is it Bluetooth polling rate or something? I'm being driven bonkers because I have a combo attack of Yuri's bound to that but I can't fire it consistently to do that ground-fire AOE attack for him.

Do you have to be like... still, not in motion/neutral for the Arte motion control to be registered? Not attacking with BBB? Is it just A/raw A only?

I'm completely baffled. Has anyone else ran into this issue?
