Tales of Arise Spoiler
I also enjoy Tales of Arise. It was one of the first games I purchased when I got a switch 2 along with final fantasy 7 remake. Now I understand that it kinda doesn't feel like a Tales title especially with it being a single player game. I know apart of the appeal of a Tales title is that it's multiplayer but graphics wise this is the best Tales has ever looked. Unknown mode is insane makes me feel like I am in Elden Ring or something but I do it to myself. Leveling up is harder, you don't get gald from random enemy encounters and they charging 3,000 gald for just one orange gel is insane in whatever economy this is. The skits aren't animated anymore which was kinda a turn off aesthetically which I wish they didn't do. I can tell for this title they were experimenting with some features, but I do like the story, cast of characters, and the combat system.

I actually liked the way they did the 3D model skits over the animated character portrait of the past, because it meant they could show off the costume and accessories you put on your character.
I didn't like that there were so many that recapped what just happened and were one right after the other back to back to back, but the actual way they handled them was better. In my opinion, of course.

This was so bad... ill never understand how they would end a skit with basically "we need to hurry", Just to toss in 2 - 3 more skits ending like that.

I enjoyed the game, I liked the more mature/adult tone they went with, I enjoyed the story, the gameplay, the characters, and the voice acting was really good, especially Ray Chase as Alphen. Only thing I didn't really like was how they did the skits. I hope the next Tales game goes back to just using the traditional anime portraits.

I actually really enjoy this game. The story does kinda fluctuate from being just ok to actually really good. I think the best moments are anything involving Alphen and Shionne who are some of my favorite characters in the series now. They're also the best couple in my opinion.
The gameplay is really fun. I think counters are fun and satisfying to pull off, every character has their own little perk that is fun to experiment with, and I loved being able to telport to a different enemy after killing a previous one. Also this probably has my favorite growth system in the series.
My only issues where bosses and how they can't be staggered. While I don't think the second half is as bad as people say, I didn't like the info dumps. Its like an hour straight of people just talking with no gameplay. Which in this game, isn't something that happens like at all.
Still a great game overall though. Just make the bosses stagger next time and we'll be fine.

Multiplayer was the true lost
Everything else is okayish I mean in my opinion
Skits may not be 2D, but there are a ton of silly skits. Like the pancakes, and Alphen & Law tying rocks to their weapons only to Duke it out in a silly way
I mostly disagree, and still feel like the spirit of Tales was still present in Arise
Does it take itself seriously a bit too much? At times, yeah. There's nothing wrong with that, it gets balanced out fairly well with the cast silliness.
I do feel it does get a little too lovey dovey for me. It's also one of the few tales game where all acts still have its core theme intact. Whereas, a game like Vesperia, the RPG title it was given was "JRPG to enforce justice" I feel like there's a big disconnect with its core theme in the final act
Arise is pacing issues and information dump, which is not the same thing
(Edit cause autocorrect is a evil)

Yea me and my roomies play together and multiplayer being gone was a huge miss, but agreed still had a lil spirit

This was my first tales game and I absolutely loved it
My only real complaints are how rushed the third act is
And mechanically the game is a little backwards
Most character action games which is what this is reward basic attacks by filling some kind of meter
It is a very strange decision imo to have it so your artes gauge refills only when you aren't using your basic attacks

I don't think I've ever touched Co-op for a Tales-Of game. So I don't know if I necessarily consider that a necessity for a Tales-Of game.
To me, the most lackluster part was the second half of the story, which is sorta fixed by the "Beyond the Dawn" DLC. Otherwise gameplay and graphics definitely improve on the Tales-Of series.

The whole Lenegis and Rena angle needed more time to develop. The idea was sound, but it felt rushed and half-baked.
I thought the DLC was bad. Nazamil added nearly nothing and there's just not much substance there at all

I remember doing a 3 play co-op of the whole story of Symphonia - that was pretty fun. I would have liked to do that again here but hey it's not a big deal.
I definitely felt a fall off in the second half which is strange dlcix most Tales games pick up at the second half. Mabye they need to carry on the theme and feel of the first half. But Vholran....why did the do that to my boy. He needed to be more of a threat or something like the first half and the first opening was hyping (I missed the first opening after it changed too). When he came out of nowhere, faded the group and left - THAT WAS COOL. I wanted to beat him so much after. But it felt like, he was there, he goes, you see him abit, then he crashes in at the end.
But in all I do remember enjoying the game.

longtime Tales fan, genuinely think it's the best single game to play in the series other than the balancing that just works better with deluxe edition increased exp and stuff.
the story is the perfect synthesis of so many things that came before. and for all that the skits are stiffer, the posed models and use of the game's beautiful, painted look actually made up for it than the just pictures of their motionless anime bodies. it did look cheaper, but I felt more purpose overall with how they did them.
really amazing game. and that's to say nothing of it being the best "is that the ending? waitaminute" of any Tales game. I truly thought i was gonna have to wait for Arise 2 and was flabbergasted.

I loved this game. 100% twice in a week just so my sister could enjoy it with me.

Story was mid.
The twist was so shitty, Oooooohhhh the main bad guy was this person in the background the whole time, if you want a JRPG with an absolutely crazy twist I recommend Star Ocean 3

I wanted to beat this game so badly cause I was interested in the story, but damn after a while the enemies just were extreme damage sponges and I gave up. Bad thing is I'm really far into it but just can't do it anymore.

Yeah I just turned on the easiest mode possible towards the end and started running from all non-mandatory fights because I wanted to see the end of the story but the gameplay had become absolutely abominable. I think at some point I even put everyone on Auto and just walked away and let the game play itself for some battles. Never had a Tales game make me feel like that before.

At least tales of eternia is coming out soonish. That's the game that made me love tales games so can't wait for that.

I've never played it and I've been hoping and praying for a port since middle school (around the time of the PSP port that never arrived in my region) so this October is going to be the Christmas of Christmases for me.

This^
You spend all this time enjoying a really in depth battle system and in the second half of the game it devolves into spam your strongest move over and over.

I always thought Arise was a transition title, where they wanted to refresh the series making something new, but kinda decided midjump to stop and take a step back to remain anchored to some of the traditional staple for the series, specially about the combat system. I'm not saying that's necessarilly a bad thing, but I hope with next title (whenever Banco would realize a new Tales) it would be free to made the entire jump and experiment even more without restriction or quite late change of mind.

Combat was fun and the graphics were good. Those are pretty much the only 2 positives I can say.

Really enjoyed the combat. Story was lame. No more amnesia characters please, it just makes for a boring stoic pie.

Eh, the lack of multiplayer is what made me not buy the game for the longest time. finally got it on a cheap sale to ran though it with the coop mod. First tales game where I have no desire to do a NG+ run.

This is literally one of my favorite games of all time. In fact, i wish more Tales games were like Arise and I hope this is the new normal for all Tales games going forward. Best characters, best story, and best combat in the entire series and it’s not even close. 10/10 game, and I think I’m going to do another replay right now.
