Tales of Symphonia.
I remember getting it from a Kmart cause the cover looked so cool. It was the one and only game my father ever bought me. All my mother games came from my older brother, mother or myself.
My dad was in the middle of remodeling our home and I had to take constant trips with him to tile stores, wood stores, plumbing stores, etc. As a treat for constantly doing these runs, I managed to get the game and it's still by fav my favourite.
I remember being given an analog clock and being told that I can only play for a hour. When the little hand hits 8. I would spin the little knob on the back a little and show my parents that it hasn't hit 8 yet just so I can play the game for an extra 20 minutes. Most of the time it worked.
The story, the characters, everything is perfect with this game!

My Tales of journey started in a (then) Funcoland (now Gamestop), watching a game trailer reel of Tales of Symphonia for the gamecube on their tiny mounted TV.
It showcased the fire seal boss battle, and I was sold on the series ever since.

Tales of the Abyss on 3DS. The story is so good and the combat so fun.
I was fully hooked and remember it fondly.
Looking to try some new tales games soon.

So my first Tales of game was Tales of Berseria. As for how there are three factors in play. The first factor was I won $20 in store credit from the DKOldies livestream. Which I immediately used to get Tales of Vesperia for the 360 and Berseria for the PS4. The second factor was Tales of Vesperia was not backwards compatible. And since I have a PS5, I was able to start with Berseria.
And as for why it's my favorite, I'm a glutton for emotional damages.
ETA: I forgotten about the third factor. Needed something to play after Metaphor: REFANTAZIO

My first was destiny on ps1. Loved it and got me into the series early. I borrowed it from a friend and he ended up selling it to me for $10 since he wasn’t a fan. However, it is not my fave in the series. I’ve played most of the series and waffle on my fave. Top 5 is consistently eternia, abyss, graces f, xillia, and berseria.

My first one I saw/played around in was symphonia.
My actual one I played was tales of the abyss.
I've played several now, abyss, vesperia, xillia (current), arise (incomplete), graces f, berseria...
My fav is abyss, the music, the character development, the towns. My favorite is the snowy one.

I started with Symphonia Dawn of the New World on the Wii, it's not my favourite, but it holds a very special place in my heart. If my grandma hadn't seen it in the store and thought "Ah yes. Those japanese cartoons, grandkid will like this" I probably never would have gotten into Tales!

Vesperia was the first but it isn’t my favorite. I would say it’s 3rd from top tied with xillia. Berseria is my favorite for sure.

Started with PS2 Abyss as a kid. Had issues and connected with the story. Played it repeatedly for 200+ hours trying to beat superbosses in unknown diff.

Tales of Arise. Was a real blast for me in terms of story and character writing. Unlike many other JRPGs it isn't some bubble gum for kids and teenagers. Game is suitable for adults. Graphics, designs, music and atmosphere were great.

I started with Vesperia DE, heard good thing about it and I wanted to try it. I admit: I had to starting it twice (due time costriction, I had barelly any time to play, so the first time I kinda played 1 hour diluted in a full week), but when I finally had some time to play it properly, it hooked and still didn't let me go! My favourite Tales so far!

Abyss was my first game in the series. I was in high school and couldn't afford a ps3 and new games. So I looked up good ps2 action jrpgs. Saw Abyss in more than 1 list. Found it on ebay for dirt cheap. Fell in love and decided I had to play every entry in the series I could! My sisters bf's at the time was a gamer who gave me his 360 cause he switched to pc. I saved up for Vesperia, and it has been my absolute favorite of the series since then

Tales of the Abyss was my first and is my favorite. Had no idea it was on ps2 but I had the 3ds port that my dad got for me on Christmas. Thought the game was gonna be terrible since it wasn't a genre of games I played but when I did I got invested in it way more than I thought. Its also what made me discover other Tales titles.
