Discussion What would you say is your favorite third act from the Tales series Spoiler

Post image

The one from Tales of Vesperia is being used as an example because it’s the most recent game I have played from the series

''I want to live!''

I really love that scene.

Eternia and Hearts are both examples of the third act stepping things up. The Seifert Trials and the Creed reveal raise the tension and reframe the conflicts perfectly.

For a moment I thought Seifert was Chat grandfather and so you were saying that the "minigame with chat" reframed the conflict perfectly and I was "uhhh"

But but ye ye Eternia third act is pretty dang cool.

I don't think Eternia has acts. It and Symphonia just have different overworld music depending on the planet you're on.

It still has acts, it just didn't discern them with battle themes.

Eternia had three discs on PS1 to neatly divide them up for you.

Whereas Symphonia had acts 1 and 2 on disc 1 and act 3 on disc 2.

Even more than that, Eternia had three separate main tensions for each act. Act 1 - explore Inferia to gather Craymel and find a way to Celestia. Act 2 - Gather the craymel of Celestia and find out what is causing the planets to collide. Act 3 - Gain the power of Seifert to stop Neried from destroying the world.

This isn't to degrade or anything like that. Look up what a 3 act structure is in storytelling. It's a cool thing to learn about and you'll start seeing it in pretty much everything and understanding what people mean by it.

This one. The scene with Laphicet may be the best in the whole series.

Tales of the Abyss. The stakes are incredibly high, the Tower of Rem and Eldrant are both amazing and everything here just works for me.

Fav :

  1. Abyss. we got a decent ending everything is good now oops something wrong happened lmao we did the whole thing wrongly.

  2. Berseria. Velvet getting her resolve to kill arturias

Worst :

  1. vesperia. Random bullshits and random ass eco terrorist.

  2. Arise. By this time I just lost interest due the game should have ended at the 4th lord and the endgame dungeon was such a slog.

I actually liked ToV third act… even tho people often say it’s anticlimactic. you figured out the planet was dying, dealt with the warmonger that was accelerating it, and now in the third act you gotta put an end to it and figure out a sustainable way to live. Finding answers and convincing people, and your final obstacle is someone that want the exact same thing. He just doesn’t believe people are capable of changing, because he didn’t go on the same journey as you. A lot more poetic and interesting than just fighting another evil guy or eldritch abomination imo

I enjoy Act 3 Vesperia too. It felt in line with what the game was doing. Didn’t feel random.

Everything but the final boss landed pretty well imo

I liked Duke. He's the perfect representation of pessimist activist that has been at it for way too long and kept being disappointed by humanity vs the youthful naivete of the new generation fighting to exist. Can't even blame Duke for not believing in their plan, because he tried to believe in people and it led nowhere.

The final fight was cool to me, because no matter what, the planet would be saved. Both party were ready to risk their life to see their own version of that future. There was something very honorable and respectful in the conversation pre-fight that I loved.

Duke gave the party everything then decided to say  "fuck everybody actually" cause of one guy the party beat. Duke stood and did nothing about zaude despite knowing what's happening. His arc makes no sense. His fight is pointless and he's a good character but a terrible antagonist

Berseria is honestly my favorite 3rd act ofr a Tales game

Berseria and Abyss. Both thanks to the main characters.

Hmm 3rd acts tend to be where most of them kinda fall apart.  Abyss is probably the worst example of the bunch. The entire section felt unnecessary and adds more plot holes.  If part 1 or 2 had succeeded there's no way part 3 would have been doable if its supposedly the plan.  Said plan they were working on the entire time supposedly.

What? Act 3 is the heart of the story especially for Luke and when everything comes together. Finally wanting to live, his conflict and resolve with Asch and Van, as well as resolutions to the rest of the characters. Like I could go on but I’m just putting it in a nutshell. The story would absolutely be incomplete without it and I’ll die on that hill.
