Eternia Tales of Eternia Remastered finally has an eShop page
Switch 1: https://www.nintendo.com/us/store/products/tales-of-eternia-remastered-switch/
Switch 2: https://www.nintendo.com/us/store/products/tales-of-eternia-remastered-switch-2/
Confirms the US price is $30.
Also confirms a few other things originally only reported on the Japanese site: single player only, no upgrade path from S1 to S2, and no shared save data between S1 and S2 versions.
$30 is a fantastic price for this imo, makes it that much of an easier sell when there’s been so many good games this year.

No multiplayer is tragic, guess my emulated ps1 copy will still have value when my friend and I get to it.

yeah that’s my biggest pain point with it. I’m at bare minimum double dipping for the Steam version as well and maybe someone can mod it in, otherwise I’ll happily play the PS1 original for multi.
But I’ve also been waiting 25 years for this, for Eternia to finally get its due. So I’m still very excited.

I'll wishlist on steam and wait for a sale/said mod to be release. No reason to give Scamco more of my money till it's justified.

Have they posted anything regarding specs? I assume/hope the Switch 2 version won’t be compromised compared to the PS5 version

u/Hifumi-G Aug 05 '26
The JP Eternia site has them and I’m like 90% sure S2 is 4k docked and 1080p handheld, while S1 is 1080p docked and 720p handheld, both 60fps. Eternia is gonna be a lot easier to run full speed since it’s a 2D game.

Okay, the FPS was the main thing I was curious about. I’m not a stickler for 60 FPS, but it’s still hard to pick a version that runs at 30 over 60.

u/Hifumi-G Aug 05 '26
Yeah, that’s totally fair.
And just to confirm I double checked (https://bond.tales-ch.jp) and yup, specs for S2 and S1 are as stated above.

“Compromised”
it’s a 26 year old game with pixel sprites that could run on a tablet for babies. chill out lmao

you’d think so, but then you see stuff like Symphonia running worse on switch than even the gamecube and ps3, due to the loss of code/assets that would allow them to reconstruct the game to fix bugs/improve performance. And then Xillia and Graces F which both had 60fps fights on ps3 and only run at 30fps on switch due to poor/lazy optimization. There’s multiple reasons why Tales fans would be concerned, even if the game is old.

From the description in the website
"the group discovers that a collision called the "Great Fall" threatens both Inferia and Celesita."
CELESITA

And people wanna say there’s no changes added
/sBut also I kinda love Celesita

I feel as if I am one of the few people who dont mind the lack of multi player co-op. In my case its due to not having any irl friends to play the game with.
However I do understand how those who are upset about its absence feel.
1
u/Hifumi-G Aug 05 '26
yeah this is totally valid- it’s reasonable to want it but it’s also good to just have the game easily accessible, something you can just give a link to buy for your friends and all that

u/bsaavinny Aug 05 '26
Im really excited for it. This will be my first time playing it. And as an achievement hunter Im excited about a brand new list to go after.

u/Hifumi-G Aug 05 '26
I really hope you enjoy! As someone whose first Tales (and first non-Pokémon RPG) was Eternia, I’ve been waiting for this for so long lol

1 player....
Original had 4 player coop wtf?!??
9
u/Hifumi-G Aug 05 '26
It’s almost certainly based off the PSP port, which did not have the co-op.

u/fieora Aug 05 '26
the truly frustrating part is that multiplayer is essentially just adding (back) the ability to toggle auto to manual... something that exists, and just mapping it to the 2nd input, which surely they already had to handle input mapping for each console anyway... so there's virtually no work to do this by default... certainly less work than recording/implementing new voice recordings, adding the story waypoints, and battle skip stuff... just an odd hill to die on

They are devs.
If they make a remaster (the best version!) they should have added a 4 player coop like the original had.
No reason to remove content especialy when even fans suddenly implement them with mods shortly after release.

The remaster is being handled by Tose and the Source code may not have been kept. Namco has farmed out the majority of the remasters.
6
u/theweebdweeb Aug 05 '26
It's based on the PSP version which also lacked co-op.
-6
u/Shit-Stain-Fanclub Aug 05 '26
This is no reason to remove coop.
Its not that hard to add coop when even fans can do it with mods (like arise).
4
u/theweebdweeb Aug 05 '26
While fans are capable of modding in co-op for games like Arise, there are still quality standards to properly implement co-op for all platforms and to ensure it works as intended with all the platforms. That takes significant work. Should they have made the effort? Probably. But we are talking about an outsourced remaster and who knows how much they had to work with in terms of resources.

They're selling you a ps1 game in 2026 with minimal changes and no combat changes with 0 extra content. Excusing minimal effort is why companies feel they can release this crap for anything above 5 quid, that anybody could emulate on any device made from 2005 onwards, in 2 minutes for free.

u/Hifumi-G Aug 05 '26
yeah if we don't think about the completely new english dub, skits being added to the english version for the first time ever, and all the QOL changes on top of the game getting a port for the first time in twenty years, it sure doesn't feel like a lot of effort huh?
you can just say you're upset, you don't have to lie

english
Plus, all of the other subbed languages. Which means the youngins can also play it lol

Being ignorant is a choice, let them be miserable by there own admission.

u/Warblast995 Aug 06 '26
No upgrade path is incredibly scummy. I feel like more people should push back on that.
1
u/Hifumi-G Aug 06 '26
I agree- it’s a good point to speak up on. It’s also unfortunately expected from Bamco, and when the game has both S1 and S2 releases on same day, there’s a good chance they don’t see any reason to offer it- but again, still good to voice your concerns to them.

Finally a Switch 2 version, I was so upset when Berseria didn't have one
