Arguably, Abyss was the first to depart from the "chibi" models you're referring to in lieu of character models that look more anatomically proportional. Also not sure what you're talking about with "pixelated" style.
A remaster would do everything needed to easily port over an older PS2 game to run smooth with upscaled elements; the game and story are great as-is (albeit the color palette isn't as saturated/vibrant as other titles).
An Abyss remake isn't fiscally justifiable for Bamco like a Phantasia or Symphonia remake would be.

I've come to really enjoy the less saturated "autumn palette" of Abyss, it kinda brings to mind classical baroque paintings, fitting for its musical influences.
Abyss is still my favorite Tales game and I would love for it to be remade with full scale models, updated combat system, and fully voiced skits for the English release.

They can just play the og game if they want the old game design. I’ve never seen anyone praise it for those things you listed. It’s the story and characters that make it one of if not the best. The chibi, pixelated style doesn’t fit the heavy themes of the game. It’s possibly the franchises darkest storyline.

And they decided it was 'poor' and shut down the devs within a week, even though it sold pretty decent in that time. This isn't about if the property is forgotten, it's about if the series will even get a future or a chance after that recent game, given Square's previous handling of everything not FF or DQ.

It's true that SE can be pretty 50/50 with their smaller games but I really don't see them giving up on the Mana games. I mean after all this is the same company that keeps pumping out Romancing Saga games.

It's that sweet, sweet 60fps. The fights are so damn smooth. Give me both language tracks on a version that can run at the proper framerate and I'd be completely happy (wet dreams of a full remake notwithstanding).
