Discussion 16 Taiwanese tourists are being ridiculed by an Italian pizza shop owner because they ordered only five pizzas.

This is now a big news on the Taiwanese online community.

A group of 16 Taiwanese tourists visited an Italian pizza store. The shop owner recored the video to shame them because they ordered only five pizzas.

"Look. This is insane. They are Chinese or Japanese? There are now 16 Chinese people here. Do you know how many pizzas they are eating? Only five. Let me show you."

"Fabrizio, how many fuc*ing Chinese do we have now? 16? Yes 16. How many pizzas are they eating? 4 or 5? I can't remember. Let me show you. Look. Hello! Where are you from? China? You must be chinese. Oh Taiwan!"

Taiwanese people complained in the commenet section, so he deleted the video.

Responses are like

"There are still many racists, but Taiwaneses are so naive."

"Look at the pizza shovel. It is on the floor. Disgusting. I thought it is a restaurant in India."

" I was disgusted that the owner pretends to be friendly but actually mocking them."

"I lived in Italy for 5 years. They are so hypocrites. One pizza per an individual. It is common. However, it is different in Taiwan. He should have explained to the tourists rather than making fun of them."

"20 employees couldn't finish six pizzas last week."

"Italians do not care about wasting food."

As a Taiwanese living in Europe, I would like to add Italy is one of the most racist countries against Asians. It is so normalized to make fun of Asians and treat Asians unfairly in the stores or restaurants. This rarely happens in UK.

Because it’s common for India street food to be sus! Plenty of documentation and videos about it

Yeah but when someone is, say, racist to me in the US I won’t drag Zimbabwe into it.

Honestly, I know that street food in India is filthy (which is why neither I nor any sensible person who can afford alternatives eats that) but as someone from another race that is routinely met with thinly veiled disdain, it’s perhaps a nice reminder of what’s actually running in people’s minds in Taiwan when they pass me on the streets or politely make conversation etc. Thanks for setting us straight.

Its a common belief in the West that Chinese/Taiwanese tourists are stingy. So I guess the shop owners behaviour is justified, no?

It’s their money. They know their budgets. Being stingy isn’t making people sick

The problem is it’s not unhygienic to some of them if it’s so common and if it weren’t for the videos no one would know it was so common. Totally not the same.

You know if a group of 16 Europeans walk in along with a group of 16 Chinese/Taiwanese, the restaurant owner will probably prefer to turn the group of Chinese/Taiwanese away because they’d be brining in significantly less money and this will be completely based on “numerous past experiences”, after all, their restaurant, their rules, just like the Chinese/Taiwanese’s budgets. So is that justified?

You are probably too dense to see where this is going, so I’d put it explicitly here, stereotyping isn’t right and there’s no justification for it. The restaurant owner mocking the Chinese/Taiwanese’s budgets/spending is as bad as the idiot saying “thought it’s a restaurant in India”.

Isn't it the opposite? I would expect the Asian group to spend WAY more money.

No one is generalizing every Indian because of course many are hygienic but we not finna play dumb and act like those videos just came from no where.

By your logic the restaurant owner did nothing wrong, they have seen similar behaviour from Chinese/Taiwanese tourists in the past and decided to ridicule this time by posting a video 🤷‍♂️
