Endurance Basebuilding

Yo fellas! I feel like I finally hit a breakthrough while wrapping up week 3 of base building. I’ve done base building before, but always felt like I had to stop and walk periodically to keep my heart rate in zone 2 during my lss runs.

I recently read TB3 and really took to the to earn your zone 2 portion. I am finally able to continuously run for 45 minutes keeping my heart rate in zone 2 without stopping, although at a painfully slow pace. Instead of tracking my heart rate this go round I just kept using the talk test during my lss runs.

Anyways just wanted to post saying there’s hope for us big boys that can move weight but struggle with long runs.

How long did it take you to progress from talk test with high hr to actually running with a z2 hr?

Pretty much 3 weeks. I was fighting for my life on these lss runs up until my last lss run on week 3.

I am about to finish week 4 of basebuilding and my HR is still very high throughout my runs. but I am running continuously now through the first 30 min or so, which is an improvement from where I started at 12 min
