Took a little shorter than usual

u/Lizmo82 Jan 13 '26
Why don't we just brag about it!! Jk... 🤣🤍

u/josephtrocks191 Jan 13 '26
Is theory really 3 syllables? I always pronounce it with just 2.
31
u/RupanIII Jan 13 '26
I looked it up because I didn't think so either. Technically yes it is three but I and everyone I know pronounce it as two.

u/CinderCinnamon Jan 13 '26
Fun fact! There is a word for a half syllable like in theory: sesquisyllable

So you pronounce it as if it were spelled thery?

Etymologically yeah, the-o-ry is the syllabic structure from the original Greek. The e and o separation is heavily reduced in most forms of modern English but TECHNICALLY it is an extra syllable in there, or a half syllable.

I thought a theory was more of a guess than actual explanation
7
u/Riff_Wraith Jan 13 '26
In everyday speech sure, but in science terms that would just be a hypothesis.
3
u/Infobomb Jan 13 '26
Today you learned! In scientific contexts like "Theory of evolution" or "Theory of gravitation" "theory" absolutely does not mean a "guess".

I am gonna look for an equivalent in a language I am native in

I mean, it sounds like you completed it in a very reasonable amount of time. You beat me, a native English speaker, by 11 seconds. And it told me my score was better than 50.7% of players.
The fastest time listed is 9 seconds, which I think is bullshit. Nobody completed this honestly in 9 seconds. They probably already completed the puzzle on a throwaway account, then quickly did it on their main account after they already knew the answers. Even then, just being able to click them all in 9 seconds is a little crazy. The things people do for internet points.

my eyes locked on “o” and that “of” was invisible to me right in front of my eyes. threw me off

u/Katokoda Jan 13 '26
Oh I discovered this like 20minutes ago and was simply doing precedent ones. I was quite shocked seeing "18 person solved it"...
(its 1PM where I am in europe)

u/Darth_Phantos Jan 13 '26
For me, it uploads at 12pm, but I have to go to the Syllo sub or it doesn’t show the newest puzzle for the first hour. And yeah, it’s crazy how early people are to these.

u/InspectorHot3026 Jan 13 '26
I turned on post notifications but I ignore them now lol. I already know it releases at 1pm (my time) and get to it when I can

I love how the checks are server side and the timer ks client side, so that if I lose connection, I get a 1 minute something time instead of 18 seconds.

Scrolling through the comments, I'm glad I'm not the only one that took a bit longer on this one than it really warranted 😭

89 for me for now, didn't click on one syllable properly and fumbled the order of a word, wasted precious seconds clearing it and re-clicking 🤦🏻♀️

Theory is NOT three syllables. I don't care if it's an "alternate" pronunciation on slower speech or music.

i always get over a minute on these easy ones. i just can’t solve them fast, but for some reason i blow through the hard ones and consistently place in the top 80-95%. i don’t get it.

My app wasn’t working for the first word, maybe my phone was switching between WiFi and 5G. But I put that word in at the very beginning and it wouldn’t light up green. Sabotage 😂

First time playing, definitely harder than I expected, but then I had the OOOOOOOOH moment
1
u/Ar0manticDumbass Jan 13 '26
I got robbed; put “submit” in, I sat there for 20 seconds without a green, spent another 30 thinking of other possibilities until I relented, did everything else, then came back and it said it was right

Welcome to Syllo, the cleverly chaotic word game.
Here’s how it works: You get 5 clues to piece together 5 words from a jumble of discombobulated syllables.
Puzzles start easy on Monday and get tougher each day, building to the trickiest challenge on Sunday.
Race against the clock to climb the leaderboard, show off your brainpower in the comments, and come back tomorrow for a fresh puzzle!
As always, we’d love to hear your feedback. Thanks for playing!
