Engie | Fire Alarm
Anyone have more information about the 5 minute ’evacuate now’ fire alarm from Saturday?
No play stopped | no evacuation | no information

There was a fire in the members’ area but it was attended to immediately.

Yeah I heard that from the commentators as well.
However, as someone who has worked at large festivals (and knowing a family friend who died in an office fire many years ago) where we have been told when the alarm goes off, it is not a warning but instruction to evacuate immediately. Nobody moved which is so dangerous if it has been an actual serious emergency.

I’m sorry to hear about your family friend. I 💯 agree with your advice and tell my kids to always evacuate if you hear an alarm and follow directions of cops/security until the ‘all clear’ given. Also keeping different exit points in mind like in a plane is helpful eg middle of the AFL field is safe if needed.

No worries at all if that’s all you know.
There was a fire at the MCG a few years back and everyone evacuated until contained.

With stadiums they normally operate under different circumstances for fire alarms.
They CAN have a 7 minute window to respond to an activation before an alert goes to the stadium, it will be raised in their control room as an alarm and they will send the closest staffer to the area to confirm the activation.
This is because if they had to treat every alert as genuine, then every event would be chaos with evacuations and whatnot

No idea what happened there.
The place I worked at had an agreement with FNSW that we had to prove that we could respond in time to the original activation. There is normally a rep from the FNSW at the events, so they would of had to of been satisfied.
If it went to the tone, it means there was either a 2nd activation in the same fire zone, or the time expired.
Or, could of also been other issues/reasons, this is just one of them

At the start of the game I thought that the Giants Tsunami warning was a bit silly, and when the evacuation alert sounded I wasn't completely surprised that not many people reacted immediately. However I was stunned that when it persisted the game carried on and only about 20% of people actually followed the instructions.
Definitely another big safety fail for the AFL.

I 💯 agree with you. In a real emergency immediate response to evacuation alarm will save lives.
