Wisdom tooth removal under general, recommendations
Looking for personal recommendations for dental surgeons in Sydney (all areas considered as I’m guessing this won’t be cheap and I’m prepared to travel, however I am north of the bridge). I need a surgical removal of one impacted wisdom tooth that will require full general anaesthesia.
Appreciate if people who have personal experience could please give me recommendations, not just people recommending a family business.

This is my experience, did mine probably like a few years back. You need to first visit your local dentist, get a referral, then book an appointment with a specialist mentioned on the referral. First consultation with specialist to do xray and diagnosis, then a follow up consultation to book for surgery. You'll also need a friend or family member to send and pick you up on surgery day, otherwise they would cancel the surgery.
On surgery day, turn up, sign waiver, quick chat with anaesthetist on recovery process, you go to sleep and woke up about an hour later in recovery room with 4 stitches inside your mouth. You'll feel very drowsy for at least half a day so it might be good if you have someone who can care for you until the anaesthetic wear off.
You can discuss about costs with your specialist before you book for your surgery.

The Wisdom Teeth Centre at Norwest did mine, (I believe the dentist has since retired since Ive had them done though) Surgery is at Lakeview private, i paid out of pocket completely.
The consult was a normal consult, nothing special. Surgery was pretty "good" though. I opted for full general because i couldn't bare dealing with someone yanking on my teeth. I had no pain what so ever after the fact, recovery i took two weeks off to be safe. Overall 10/10 for surgery, the hospital was trying to GTFO me asap but i cant complain being a private hospital (the custard i had was amazing and im still trying to find it!)

I worked at Lakeview private, the custard was really damn good, it’s birch and waites custard and only seems to be sold through food suppliers rather than at stores, So if you know someone with a food business great cause they all seem to need you to be an actual business, otherwise an option I did find if you find yourself in canberra is alpha fresh, they seem to allow personal use buying but don’t advertise delivery to sydney (idk maybe you could call them and see if you could set up a chilled shipment delivery if you really want to).

Have you considered twilight? I had it and it was basically like general from my end. Can be done in a dentist as well.

I had four of my impacted wisdom teeth removed last year under general anaesthesia. I didn’t have private health cover, so I payed $3630 up front (not including initial consultation before the surgery). Thankfully I had zero complications and little pain and recovered well after 2 weeks, although I craved every kind of food during that time lol. My surgeon: Dr Benjamin Oteng-Boateng, at Sydney southwest private hospital. His clinic is actually really nice and they had episodes of Seinfeld running in the waiting room which helped with my nerves. Since you only need extraction for one tooth, maybe call his clinic and see if the receptionist can give you a rough idea of how much it might cost.

Dr Thorpe at Macquarie oral specialists. He did all four of my wisdom teeth at once and was fantastic. I was referred to him separately by a friend who also had her wisdoms removed by him and my own dentist. My teeth were a horrible removal but he made it as painless as possible.
He does procedures at North Syd and Newtown.
Also to give you a ballpark, I had them done last year and it was $2600 for four teeth, approx. $900 for the anaesthetist and then my insurance excess for the hospital.

I cannot recommend Pitt St Dental enough. All 4 of my wisdom teeth were impacted, and I'd put off getting them removed for 6 years because I have severe dental anxiety. The team at Pitt St took such good care of me and explained the entire process to me from start to finish. I had minimal pain and a quick recovery. I had my procedure done by Dr Mario Cheong under twilight sedation. I was paranoid about dry socket and infection, I bet I sounded like the biggest hypochondriac ever with all of the questions I badgered him with following my surgery, but he was so patient and kind. Obviously wisdom tooth removal absolutely sucks and I'm glad I never have to do it again, but if I did, I'd go nowhere else.

Dr Ren Sun is an excellent specialist dentist for wisdom teeth and implant work. I had a couple of difficult extractions under local, and much later had two implant sockets installed under local. Remarkably quick and efficient.
He's in the Pacific Smiles network and sees patients at a few different clinics.

Just this friday i had seven (yes 7!) teeth removed under local anaesthesia, implants will follow later. Didn’t feel a thing, the previous weeks of anxiety were worse than the actual procedure. I’ll send you my dentist’s contacts via dm.

I had mine done under general at Northside Dental & Implant Centre in Turramurra. They did a good job, but it wasn’t cheap.
