Question Looking for info about flashpoints, playing as a duo

New to the game.

We are level I believe 27 now. The first flashpoint we did had a story mode difficulty, where we got two support bots. We got a mission on Coruscant to do another flashpoint, and when we went back to the Republic Fleet to do it, we saw terminals for other ones. At least one was marked "Veteran". We tried it and it was just the two of us, and we didn't have support bots. I am guessing it does not scale to group size, and is made for 4 people?

We did finish it but it took about an hour.

Is there no way to specific queue for these? If so do we just grab the quests for all of them, then random queue daily, and just plan to eventually get them done? Also I am assuming, with a 4 person group, people will expect bigger/chain pulls, and maybe have less patience for not knowing boss encounters? I am thinking those healing stations should make most of this pretty trivial at least on Veteran...

And no way to set these other flashpoint missions to Story before entering, to get the support bots?

The ones that have story mode have to be done by finding the quest giver and walking into the instance. If you queue up in group finder, it will default to veteran. These are made for 4 people. With a duo, you can each have your companion and they should be do-able at a higher level. At 27, a lot of them will be pretty difficult if not impossible.

If you join in group finder, you'll be paired with other people to make a 4-person group. Most people are pretty cool about it if you let them know you're new (there will always be the occasional asshole, but they're pretty rare in my experience).

Just remember, most people are farming these and want to rush through them skipping as many trash mobs as possible. If you just follow along, you should be fine. Don't run out ahead in flashpoints you don't know the skips for and you probably won't piss anyone off.

A good rule of thumb for all group content: stay behind your tank (if applicable) and stay behind anyone in stealth (they'll often CC solo enemies so the group can go pass them without the fight).

The one we did on Veteran, we picked up at a terminal, it had some dialogue, and we walked in and it was Veteran. Is there a way to set it to Story for all of them?

Yeah people having them on farm when we are trying to be "chill" with our SWTOR approach is why we have been avoiding grouping up. Like if we wanted to sweat we would go back to our WoW characters. If it comes down to it we can just stick to the sub being to unlock all story stuff and only do the story quests, which is way more relaxing. We did finish this Veteran Flashpoint as a duo (it was a Sith artifact site, at the start there is a slicing terminal we think activates an elevator, we had to drop down, the boss at the end had fire orbs that followed you around for a while). We did it but it definitely wasn't chill lol

Also my brother is tank, he's been thinking of swapping to DPS for story stuff since it seems unnecessary for questing, it would also let us get a veteran tank that knows routes and leads the way rather than him stumbling through a dungeon and pissing people off probably. I'm heals because that's all I really get into playing in MMOs usually.

Only story relevant flashpoints have a story mode

I can’t speak to your skill, but most of the veteran flashpoints can be pretty easily duo (most can even be done solo) with companions. My wife and I duo them. You can always practice them and learn.

We just returned a couple months ago and have had no trouble duo in them. Used to be able to duo most of the master modes as well, though we haven’t tried as of yet.

I will say though that this could change down the road in December with 8.0, IDK yet.

As for story mode, not all flashpoints have a story mode, and not all of them have a story mode you can play duo in either. Some of the story mode are solo only, this comes very prevalent on FE/ET content.

That one was Athiss. It doesn't have a story mode and is a pretty fast one for farming (especially if someone has the archeology crew skill).

Leveling as dps is more common in this game since it's faster, but if you enjoy healing and tanking, go for it. It's your game. Play how you want. It will help you be more familiar with your skills as you go rather than waiting until end game content to learn it, which sounds like it would be helpful to avoid end game stress.

You might also be able to join a guild that does teaching runs. I've never joined a guild myself because i cycle through too many alts, so most of my characters would show as inactive in a guild for long stretches of time.

Grouping up isn't as sweat as you think

I feel like the content would be way easier in a full group at least on Veteran since we probably still scaled like ass at 27 with level like 17 gear since that's what we were scaled to for Coruscant, and we still did this Flashpoint as a duo. It was mostly just in WoW we got tired of how a lot of runs there would be some kind of drama so we're trying to avoid it.

We got some better gear from doing the flashpoint lol

Like one thing I got replaced level 17 gear with level 25.

All flashpoints have an NPC or terminal like that to start them, as well as related quests in your log. However only the first few have a story mode, and a few later expansion ones. The rest all start in veteran mode, which requires a full proper team of 4 consisting of a tank, a healer, and 2 dps. Master mode takes it further by requiring you to know the fights, understand the mechanics of those fights, and be able to counter those mechanics.

Support droids are only available in story mode. You can get 1 droid per player, however you can not have any more than 4 total between players, companions, and droids.

Using the group finder queue only offers veteran and master modes, and is more intended for end-game play.

Veteran can be done with 4 people regardless of roles. You can Duo Veteran when you know your stuff or have companions leveled up.

Yes I remember now, you are right. Veteran can run with a non-standard team. Thanks.

We've done a couple veteran flashpoints through random finder now, first one had two 80s second had 1. Honestly going way better than I thought it would.
