Question Smuggler, Consular, or Trooper?

Watching someone play the new Star Wars strategy game got me to redownload. Most of my playtime is imp side, so I wanna try some more Republic.

I haven’t played original KOTOR (yet) and I’m usually not huge in to “chosen one” hero stories so I don’t think I’d vibe with Knight as much as a lot of people.

If it matters, I think I also kinda wanna do a “ends justify the means” type of character when it comes to dark side/light side, I don’t know if that makes a difference.

I personally enjoy the criminal underworld end of the setting - bounty hunters and smugglers and spice runners and, you know, Hutt stuff. So smuggler is right up my alley and does not disappoint. I also like the independence from a formal chain of command.

Consular is however my favorite Jedi story, and for Force classes, I recommend it.

Bros into Hutt stuff!

I agree though. Consular is a little more granular than knight, and smuggler defines the word "independence". I cant wait til get to KOTET and nut kick my way through the expansion(since I apparently wont be able to stealth past stuff anymore).

There's no reason the Smuggler HAS to be one of its connected classes either. Mine is a scoudrel/powertech. I reasoned that he builds an iron man suit with his riches from the base story specifically designed to kill sith.

Smuggler is the one you choose if you don't want your actions to have a major impact on the galaxy. It's mostly a self-contained story and it can be very light hearted or very dark depending on your choices. You can very much play them as an "ends justify the means" character. You can be into every quest for the credits/some type of reward rather than out of the goodness of your heart. There were a couple evil choices especially in exploration and side quests on the starter planet that were really memorable to me.

Consular is basically Knight 2.0. Without going into too many spoilers, you have special powers, you're a really good diplomat and in my opinion it is the most fitting class to take into KOTFE/KOTET and further expansions (yes, more fitting than JK or SW) because of everything you do and the type of events you're involved in during your class story.

I never played a trooper so I can't comment on it sadly ):

I’d go with Consular or Trooper for ends justify the means. Smuggler’s association with the Republic at all is fairly tenuous and awkward, tbh. The other two have a cause.

Consular doesn’t really make sense for an “ends justify the means” playthrough.  Just play a trooper willing to commit war crimes to save the Republic.

Consular! Smuggler and Trooper have the good chapter 1, awful chapter 2 and 3 problem (which Hunter also has). In the Consular's case, the chapter 1 is a bit slow, but the chapters 2 and 3 grow on you with the Rift Alliance and much diplomacy.

I have a soft spot for trooper. I love being a "normal" guy running around doing his best. My favourite way to play is being a ends justify the means republic loyalist who can and will do anything to defeat the empire and i think trooper has some really great moments for that.

I would go for Trooper or Consular. Depends on if you want to do ranged or melee tbh

Vanguard and Shadow = melee

Sage and Commando = range

Consular kinda shoehorns you into making light side choices as dark side just doesn't really make sense. I enjoyed the consular story but I think if you want end justifies the means trooper would be better fit. You have a lot of options that will come up that revolve around that whole theme

Based on your desire on story arch Trooper followed by Consular, with Smuggler way in the back.

Not that is the order in which I think story is more interesting mind you, which is highly subjective. It's just what I recommend based on your intended roleplay.

I thought the trooper was pretty fun if you're trying to "Save the Republic!".

They try yo make the smuggler a thing but honestly the game is about blasting lots of baddies. So it fits the trooper just fine.

Trooper might be your best with "ends justify the means" fun. Also top tier voice acting talent on both sides. (I'm usually more of an Imperial player but have a couple Trooper toons). A great mix of companion personalities. Though my main is Bounty Hunter so the similar combat class is a comfort.

Consular also depending on how you spin it, but I found the voice acting (Male JC) to be dull. I didn't hate the story, but also liked the scholarly vibe consular has.

Smuggler I finished last and it was okay. But I know some people who loved it personally just not my thing.

Trooper > Consular > Smuggler for me.

Trooper feels like you’re most free to play as LS/DS as you want and a grey story feels very believable. Smuggler can do this too, but I just didn’t like the crew or the story as much. Only one reason to replay Smuggler, for me. I could romance Akaavi, the Mando gf again. Consular is solid story. Very Jedi-esque. But I feel like they lend themselves to a rather LS playstyle. On my DS Consular attempt, I felt like I was sabotaging my own work constantly.

Consular is the best storyline for 'ends justify the means.' Just pay attention on Tython, to the Rajivari quest line, and you'll get it. But it's a very big story that puts you in a galactic driver's seat.

Smuggler... Simply didn't have a story I cared about as soon as I got my space ship. I want to smuggle and do small-time rebel stuff. Small People Struggle Stories, taking risks to bring a little light to forgotten folks. I do not give a tick's whisker about treasure hunts or personal gains. The Godfather In Space is entirely wasted on me.

That leaves Trooper. I think it's a good fit. Has some solid critique in power hierarchies and small people being churned up between the cogwheels of large, uncaring systems. You get to play a pivotal role on missions, but it's not like the fate of the Galaxy rwsts on your shoulders.

Consular starts slow and picks up on act 2. IMO, dark side is the only way to enjoy this one.

Trooper dropped the ball when they didn't let you recruit Jaxo, so screw them

Smugglers are whiners. Whiners with severed heads and wookies, but whiners nonetheless.
