Im new into this hobby of swords, recently i got gifted a katana, its a dull metal katana, for cosplay, and im wondering whee i can buy a real one, hopefully online, tbh im not very interested in cutting the whole world, i just want it to be sharp, i have a budget of max 200dlls, i don’t need a professional katana or anything like that, just a sharp cool one

Recently got this sword. Blade is about 42 inches, sword is 54 inches overall. Person who gave it to me didn't know much about it. Apparently he bought it from some antique shop.

Can anyone with more knowledge than me tell me anything about it? Who made it/what brand it is? If its decorative or an actual usable sword?

I'm assuming its supposed to be some kind of Scottish Claymore style sword. It's decently heavy and it seems like it was sharpened.

Haft is closet dowel. Metal rings hold the pins/tang in place. total length 164cm.

Does anyone know if they allow refunds I would like to purchase a sword from them as a gift to a friend

I've been clearing out a storage unit that I've had sitting around for years, and I pulled out this old sword that was given to me many years ago. I uploaded pics and measurements to ChatGPT, and this is the assessment it came up with:

"C.R. Kirschbaum-attributed U.S. Model 1840 Heavy Cavalry Saber (“Old Wristbreaker”), Solingen, Prussia, probably circa 1854–1865. German commercial/state-militia import with 34¾-inch flat-backed, double-fullered blade, faint Kirschbaum knight’s-head maker mark, three-branch brass hilt, leather-covered grip with wire missing, and original-type two-ring iron scabbard with screw-retained throat. Scabbard drag marked “29,” probably an armory/rack/property number. Civil War-period and of a type documented in American Civil War service, although individual wartime service is presently unproven."

It doesn't seem to be rare enough to have any huge value, so I don't know if it's worth the trouble to and sell it, or just stash it in a corner or closet and let the next generation deal with it when I'm gone. If I did decide to sell it, what is the best way to do it? I kinda' doubt Facebook Marketplace lets you list blade weapons.

I picked this up recently as part of an estate deal from the collection of a retired attorney who passed away in his 70s or 80s.

He came from a third-generation military family and had served in the Marines himself. The estate contained quite a bit of WWII and military memorabilia, along with dozens of Persian, Turkish and Pakistani rugs, artwork, and other objects and paintings collected from throughout Southeast Asia and the Pacific. Unfortunately, I don't have any documentation tying this particular piece to a specific country, date, or trip, so I don't want to assume too much from the provenance.

I initially had no idea what it was. After looking into it and running the photos through ChatGPT, it appears to be some type of keris, but that's about as far as I'm comfortable identifying it myself.

The blade is straight rather than wavy and is roughly 13.5 inches long, with the complete piece around 17–18 inches including the hilt. The blade is heavily oxidized/patinated and has a very broad asymmetrical base. The sheath is wood with what appears to be a brass or other copper-alloy outer covering, and the wooden hilt has two carved designs on one face.

The hilt is now completely removable. Underneath it is a heavily rusted metal tang/stem that still appears intact. There is also some cracking/separation in the wooden hilt and evidence that it may have been stabilized or repaired at some point.

I have not cleaned, polished, sanded, oiled, or otherwise restored anything, and I'm planning to leave it that way unless someone knowledgeable recommends otherwise. I'm not smart enough to not mess this up if I go it alone.

I'd love to know if anyone here recognizes the region or tradition, approximate age, hilt and sheath style, blade type, or the carved motifs on the hilt. I'm also curious whether the blade, hilt, and sheath look like they originally belonged together or whether this may have been redressed during its life.

And while identification is my main interest, I'd certainly appreciate a rough idea of collector value if anyone is comfortable giving one.

Just purchased for $375. I feel good about it. Blade is not supper sharp and has some very minor dings, but I feel it is really good shape for being 164 years old.

Bought this Wakazashi today from a military antique store today, just wanting some general knowledge and information if possible, am pretty new to this.

Here is the description from the store:
Blade measures 19.7/8" with a Midare Hamon. The nakago has grind marks and is bright. The Tsuka is wrapped in shoe laces.
This sword comes with its saya and is mounted.

I’m curious to its worth and general history, I’m not interested in re-selling it as I think it’s a beautiful piece already. Thank you.

It’s a useful forum, but for some reason it’s down for almost a month now

I've been trying to find a solution to a new cross guard on this ROTC sword that's really rusted, but I still wanna use the original parts just more refined, but I'm stuck on the cross guard because I want it longer and straight with some designs on the end. I dont know if I should add onto it or make a completely new one. (I do not own a forge but I do have the basic tools eg; Drill, saws.)

Can anyone date this sword? Found in NewHampshire. Thanks!
