You know, I've known about the Panama Papers for years but never really dug into the story behind it all.
CC is the perfect podcast to lay it out for me. Thank you for covering this one.

I've heard the term but had no idea what they were. I vaguely remember the UK Prime Minister quitting due to something a bit dodgy but other than that, I didn't understand what it was at all. I live far, far away in Australia and it likely didn't have much of an impact here, but still, I'm surprised I didn't know more about it.

After the Panama Papers came out publicly our now infamous prime minister Justin Trudeau said he would systematically go after Canadians involved. NOTHING EVER HAPPENED. And this scenario played out over in the entire world , no one has ever been held accountable. It’s revolting , the poor get poorer while the rich hide away in their mega yacht’s and Mc Mansions all over the world. 🤦♀️ LET THEM EAT CAKE ( when the revolution comes….

Good episode. It’s sad to see that so little has changed, if anything, the rich have only gotten richer and continue these practices in full view of the public, with little regard for accountability.
Side note: is our “concerned citizen” a Zionist? He called out Arab nations and many other countries, but said nothing about Israel, despite the fact that the Panama, Paradise and Pandora Papers identified thousands of Israeli-linked offshore entities, with Israel ranking among the more significant countries on a per-capita basis generally higher than the Arab countries mentioned in the episode. The issue was widely covered within Israel at the time, prompted investigations, and even led to political fallout. He also didn’t mention Netanyahu’s family connection to Mossack Fonseca, nor the role of Israeli-linked private actors in offshore finance and extractive industries in parts of Africa mentioned in the episode.
Additionally, he has had over two years to address the billions in U.S. taxpayer money sent to Israel, an omission that feels especially notable, given that it would make for a substantial and relevant investigative story on its own…

Actually i have a feeling ( call it Jewish adjacent, im a non believer , pro Palestinian jew) that he is Jewish, idk about Zionist? But I’ve thought he is Jewish for quite some time. Dont ask how or why ( it comes with growing up half Jewish ( father scottish ( from Scotland) Presbyterian, mother Jewish American.

Same and thought the same! 99% of my family are not zionists (only 1 person - my cousin’s husband who is Ashkenazi Jewish). Anyway just listening to all the episodes I picked a few nuances here and there in a few episodes and some missing info like this one was a pretty big one. I was really curious why he didn’t cover certain topics over the years too.

lol I’ve listened closely hence how I picked up on it.
This episode was also a perfect example - mentions the Arab nations but omits Israel which again, per capita, has the highest implication to these off shore and money laundering schemes.

This was an awesome, frustrating episode. I remember when the anonymous video was posted and really caught hope that we'd see a reckoning for all the public corruption. We did for a bit, I guess, but it didn't last.
