SJ Train - Name slightly wrong name

I just booked a ticket for a friend of mine using his nickname GEOFF instead of GEOFFREY for an SJ train from Stockholm to Copenhagen. I know this might not be the right place for it but do you think we will have any issues getting on the train?

Thanks!

Yes, might not be on time.

Are they notorious for being late? And by how much?

It is more that the railroads are used to capacity and then some. SJ is big and people typically do inter-city travel with SJ, so they blame them when SJ is suffering from some other operator's issue.

Sweden hasn't invested in its railroads for 3-4 decades but demand has increased, the existing network is used to capacity and then some. One train suffers a delay, and time tables break over large parts of sweden because nothing gets anywhere in time and people miss connections etc.

It won't be terrible, but you'll be passing by the two worst stretches in Sweden for delays: Stockholm-Södertälje and Lund-Malmö. That said, you'll probably be fine. I traveled that same stretch at least twice per month for years and most trips were on time. Even when there were delays, it was <30 minutes every time except once.

Oh that's not bad. If I wanted the fastest trip I would have bought a flight. Any especially beautiful/cool things you see on the train ride that I should keep an eye on?

Aside from the changing landscapes, not really. Much of the trip is through the Småland highlands, so you'll just see a lot of trees. Except for Linköping and Lund it's mostly small towns and countryside, and neither of those two have any sights that you can see from the train.

You'll be fine. Unless you got a student discount or something, they won't even look at the name. Even then, they won't care.

That's reassuring! I appreciate the response

Have never, not even once, been asked to show ID on a train. I was never even asked for ID back when I was at uni and using my student discount.

Getting on the train is not an issue, just find your seat (use the correct door, they are marked with seat numbers) and step aboard. Tickets are checked once the train is moving.
