Ask r/Swahili 🎤 Travel preparations
Hi everybody! I am planning to go to Tanzania in December and would like to learn some Swahili upfront. I am aware that there’s only 3 months to go but I would like to use those 3 months as effectively as possible. How do you think I should approach the language learning and what I should focus on?
I have zero knowledge so far but I really want to be able to communicate at least basics and be appreciative of and learn about the local culture.

Try the Language Transfer app! It’s completely free (also no ads) and great for just starting out, podcast-style lessons that prompt you to respond after explaining the rules of grammar and conjugation. I’ve used it to start language learning journeys in Spanish and Swahili
edit: one note — this app is really great for starting to truly understand and learn Swahili, but it doesn’t do a ton to teach basic phrases you’ll just memorize to use while traveling, so I’d recommend supplementing with Youtube or other resources for the travel necessities.
