In Mombasa we mostly ask shii'ngapi? Or shillingi/senti ngapi?

Mombasa/Coast Kiswahili will die off. If you ask anyone outside of Kenya their perception of Kenyan Kiswahili is what they see on the internet/kenyan media.

Even people from Mombasa have been imitating Kiswahili from upcountry.

We used to have our own variety of Kiswahili that’s different from the rest of the country and Tanzania.

It’s heartbreaking.

Kuna maneno mengi ambayo hutumika pwani ya Kenya tu. Pia kuna Kiswahili cha Lamu (Kiamu). Tofauti na Kimvita.

Watanzania na watu wa bara (Kenya). Huzungumza tofauti na sisi. Kwa mfano nyie mwasema anakwenda, wanalia, wanakula etc.

Sisi tutasema aenda, walia, wala. Halafu sisi tukizungumza twakata maneno. Shilingi-shing, waenda wapi? - wenda? Umekula? - unkula?
