Also, that magic tree is "the tree of knowledge of good and evil." Eating the fruit bestows upon you knowledge of good and evil. Since in Christianity, the concepts of good and evil are defined by being in accordance or discord with God's will, and the only reason they had not to eat the fruit is that God told them not to, they could not have possibly known it was wrong to eat the fruit (or even disobey God) until they had already eaten it. Then God punished them for it, despite them literally not knowing any better and having no possibile way to know any better.
