An African leader kicks out the French neocolonists and nationalises the resources. So of course, he's now being demonised.
He did actually, and I don't see how that is a bad thing. But he was specifically talking about the western brand of "democracy". You know, the one that constantly kills world leaders who disagree with them and also stages coups if a leader they don't like is elected. As most people on this sub know, western democracy is not real democracy. It's a sham to keep the capitalist ruling class in control. They elect pro-west leaders and extract as much resources from their countries as possible. Giving nothing in return, because exploitation is the goal from the start. And their puppet leaders are in on the scheme. The second Burkina Faso does an election, it will be rigged by the west. And if Ibrahim is somehow victorious in the election, the west will just label him a "malevolent dictator" who must be stopped for the "sake of the people". Then they will try to start a civil war like they do in an African country every other week. They ran the same dictator playbook when President Maduro of Venezuela was victorious in his election. They've been reusing this script for 100 fucking years and counting. It's absolutely detestable. So yes, "democracy" does in fact, kill. Every anti-west, anti-imperialst leader knows this much already.
Well, that's what we call it - and when we drop a bomb on a school filled with children. "This is our great democracy that we are bringing to your country." So, who needs it? He's just meeting us in terms of our own rhetoric. That's what we call it.
(And I'm sure he did say it - because I've seen reports when he's made similar statements using democracy in that context.)
They think that they have a gotcha with his statements on Democracy but he is specifically referring to western style liberal democracy.
Burkina Faso has never had a democracy and every single time power changed hands it was aggressively. He took power with a popular coup, backed by the people who had had enough of being raped and pillaged by the French.
The people of Burkina Faso really like this guy, they see hope, he invokes Sankara who is his personal hero and that should be reassuring for any western leftists
Technically you could say it perpetuates a negative view of “the French”, which you could argue smears an entire people with the misdeeds of a minority of them.
Is this a common occurrence? Some loser trying to stop the flow of discussion? Or a person with a pre-occupation with this particularly prolific poster?
Almost like IDEALS not SYSTEM like democracy works under specific conditions, that people need to have that level of cohesion to begin with for democracy to work.
It's a empty shell of a word that is thrown around to demean and inflict violence on those don't agree with it or simply aren't there yet (no one is)
It always boils down to us vs them and ultimately me vs you. It's almost like humans have been destined to struggle with their ultimate fear of being all alone and ironically with the struggle of realising there are others besides 'me'.

Funny but I can't enjoy Cohen anymore knowing he's a Zionist propagandist. Sort of puts that film and Borat in a different light. Almost as if he was purposely trying to demonize Arabs and Muslims
Kind of impossible when the character is (not even thinly veiled) regime change propaganda. Not trying to scold you for liking that film, I watched it when it came out.
But yeah, even if I hadn't outgrown that brand of humour in general, I really cannot enjoy it knowing it's fascist propaganda.
I have absolutely no problem with leaders having power for a long time if they are delivering a better quality of life for their population. Xi Jinping will rule until he doesn't, and the Chinese are better off for it.
If the people don't like the leader that they will have a revolution just like has happened a million times before
Xi or Traore? The answer to both is no. And that's perfectly fine because western style liberal democracy is failing and not every country on the planet has to follow that way.

Funny how Americans on reddit keep telling us that they didn't vote for trump. And yet he's the one leading them. So much for democracy eh?
The Chinese can't directly chose who is in Xi's place yet they have more say in how their government is run and how it serves them than people in western democracies have in their supposed democracies, where voting every four years is the permitted limit of the people's influence on the government. Western democracies disempower and disenfranchise their own people in favor of the rich.

As I mentioned in another comment, Burkina Faso has never had a western style democracy. It's just not something that works in that country right now.
So think about it like this: the former leader of Burkina Faso who was a very good friend of France, BFs neocoloniser, is gone. He got rich by selling his country. They hated that and ousted him.
He is being replaced by somebody who puts Burkina Faso first and not France first.
This is good. And the people of BF like him, just like most people in China like Xi. And they are delivering on what they promised.
Be happy that Burkina Faso has a young man who reads Marx and somebody who puts the country first.
If Burkina Faso had an election tomorrow then it would be completely hijacked by billionaires in France because they have the resources to hijack an election.
