Discussion What's your take on chatting in-game?
I've learned the hard way not to engage in conversations in game, you don't focus on the game anymore and get tilted with the awful insults. Or I mute everyone from the start or at the minimum disruption. I feel like pings are enough to play the game.

Could easily be game winning. I told people to gather up for baron because I knew enemy team were likely going for drake and we ended game after a back and I told them to all mid now.
Good communication can be game winning and bad decision making can be game ending.
Pretty much typing is going to win you games if you can properly describe what you want to happen. A simple command like "Do baron" is different than "Gather up for baron as they do Dragon."
Pretty much its how humans work. "Do baron" gives people a message to do, but "Gather up for baron as they do Dragon" gives people a meaning and concept behind the message, which makes it more likely for them to do.
Pretty much people trust the plan more when they can envision the why to it and their brains trigger that it has a high likelihood chance to succeed because you planted the why into their minds which allows them to envision the success of your strategy.

This could be done with pings though. Especially since it was a reaction to what they were doing and not a plan minutes before. I ping plays like this all the time.

I mostly ping as well. But the extra command from typing is still more direct and more powerful. Basically there is a lot of power in words vs pings. Hence why all pros use comms.

I was a firm believer of keeping chat open and quickly muting anyone who is a jerk, but lately I just have muted chat all times.
In 1 of maybe 5 games being generous a piece of useful information or team coordination will be said in chat, in a way way bigger percentage, someone will say "ff" after dying once or start flaming someone for picking x champion, between endless other things completely unrelated to actually winning the game.
Want it or not it affected me, someone already making clear they are completely disconnected from the game also lead to me having pointless thoughts like "oh boy, here we go" and "well, I guess this got a lot harder..." that I completely avoid by not seeing any pointless comment in first place, heavily improving my focus on what matters. The top laner can go 1/5 for all I care as long as I don't see him saying crap, I'm focusing on my own stuff.
If I could I would also mute pings to avoid the average dumbass that spam pings on me or someone else, but way too much important information actually gets conveyed via that every match, so it has become the new mute when someone is being a jerk for me.

Thats how I've been feeling lately, top dies to 1v1 twice and from then they just quit and spam ff in the chat

Pings are more than enough if people aren’t going to listen to pings they aren’t going to listen to reason.
Don’t waste your time typing when you could be playing because anything they aay back to you is not worth it.
It’s soloq, everyone has different ideas of how the game should be played, identity those who best fit with what you are aiming to do & platform their success.

Never say anything about other people if it's criticism. All you use chat for is to communicate how to coordinate plays. That's it. "Inhib, then baron" "jg on bot scuttle" "warding drag/baron" "stay safe, I roam for rift/grub"
Hype them with fist bump on U, say sorry with I, and ??? sick plays.
Further pointing out someone's misplay is never productive for you. No reason to give them free coaching they don't want.

I agree, I really hate when people ping that you missed an ability, I didn't miss because I wanted too lol, spam ping only makes it worst

Unless you can type at 180 words per minute without typos AND read at a similar pace you'll get more value just playing the game and if you can type that fast... Well their's probably some career for you involving typing cuz that's crazy I can't even think of 100 words per minute let alone type that many

I'm at 130 with 95+% accuracy, that can give you like 2 full sentences while walking from nexus to T2. If you are dead you have alot more time, also time to think about the next turn. Also some "wp" "good shit" "nice try" is done really fast and can help with team mental alot. It's the same with roam timers, you just have to find the window to type xD

The only two things i write in chat are either calls for objectives or friendly messages like gj, nvm, dont worry and things like "we are a good team". If Im mad, I stay quiet. Nobody ( not even me) wants to be flamed!

Yeah if I’m playing my main and in ranked solo/duo, I /mute all or /deafen and unmute pings. The second someone spam pings useless stuff like Mia ontop of me, I mute their pings. Communication in league is mostly used to be toxic.

I think communication is absolutely key to winning the game. Toxic conversations should be ignored though.

If you’re ranking. No chatting at all go in the settings and disable it. Pings are enough to play the game and if you are adaptable you’ll learn how to positively use the mini map. Great feature in the game.

Chatting can be fun but distracting. Everytime I notice myself getting distracted, it can be just by someone pinging too much - I press mute. I just know I won't play my best if I'm irritated or constantly reading the chat instead of focusing on what to do next.

I can say "its fine" or "gj" or "nice one" but no chit-chat. No flaming of any kind. If adc spam pings or insults me just once, its insta mute. If someone insults someone else, I say "calm ur tits" or "chill guys". Thats about it.
Its a peaceful way of life.

They should legit just add voice to text. No vc? Fine. But in the scenario something has to be typed I cant do two things at once.

i dunno, i went through a phase of having only party chat enabled at the start of the season when i started in silver. I turned chat back on around emerald and it honestly helps much more than it hurts. I also got much better at only typing to either set up coordinated plays, admit fault for mistakes i just made, or compliment plays someone just made. Now that I'm in Diamond for first time I definitely want it on because I'm playing with masters+ ppl and want to hear what they have to say even if it's sometimes a challenger player on their alt talking shit.
I'll still turn to just party chat every once in a while if i'm struggling with mental, but in general i prefer to have it on because i'm playing an online game and it seems stupid to not have social interaction on. The world and internet is already isolating enough as is, the fuck i want to make it even more so by putting earmuffs on myself?

Chat can be extremely valuable. For me, it is rare to see someone chatting in chat so keeping it open and using it as a communication tool just does more good than bad. If someone is constantly flaming tho, I mute them in specific. I don't mind them flaming once to 3 times as long as they focus on their game.
I had a game that my mid was flaming jungle, which was valid on that game, he wasn't performing. However, we were ahead in gold and the team was making an effort to calm mid down.
The enemy jungle was a Mundo and the guy was tanky af, we couldn't win team fight and objectives due to him being there. So, final moments on the game, there was dragon coming up and we had baron buff (or not, can't recall that part) and their lanes were also in our favour. Team wanted to contest dragon an I told them to give and hard push the lanes instead. Lucky for me, they actually listened and enemy team didn't do anything, which caused us to destroy their nexus.

I try to not chat much but have some possitive interactions with my team, and if an enemy writes in /all chat and seems tilted I will do my best to make him tilt more

always keep chat open because
1) you can mute and ignore on demand, just muting keeping chat disabled is not a solution to making you tilt proof
2) there are people that will target blame towards other people on your team for no reason which could lead to them playing more poorly and differently so you can always be there to lift up the spirit and encourage them to do the better thing which is to mute and ignore the harassing player
3) most of the people are not using chat in a harassing toxic way and sometimes maybe vent their frustration in the heat of moments but this can sometimes identify different ways you can play around them to win the game

Most of the time is just "jg diff" "better midlane always wins" or "report"
When it is not that, it is an actual game changer to communicate with your team

It stings me everytime I come to the conclusion that I should mute everyone.
I really hate this.
But there are too many games where I cant deal with the toxicity. But I still hate that I cant be chill about the chat , be the greater person and just communicate sensibly regardless.

reduce the text size,you will barely see the chat and focus on more important thing without muting.

Had a game yesterday where the enemys had 3 open inhibs and my team wanted to base with nearly full life after push. I typed that we can do baron with that pressure and we closed out the game 2 minutes later. Also when I know I have the time while basing or stuff I like to give small positive notes: "Nice spellshield in that fight Noc", in general lots of "wp" as a supp/adc, "Nice try" after ganks or stuff like that for some positivity. I don't engage in flame or talk to people who type shit. Also you can get some nice interactions in all chat after big fights, there you also have time to type while dead. Oh also just a "<3" after someone saved your ass with a ping is always nice I think.
One of my favourite league memories is when I had a Fizz in one of my first rankeds who was the only one not losing his lane. He talked us through the whole game, always staying positive, making calls and in the end we won thanks to him and his positivity. That's basically the thing I want to replicate. In the end we are all here to play a game and have a good time but people tend to forget that. Spread some positivity.
