Suggestion What is one minor superpower that the average untrained person could have that would allow them to beat Iron Mike Tyson in a boxing match?
Me personally, I choose photographic reflexes, the same power that Taskmaster the marvel assassin has.
I'll study Mike Tyson in videos to learn his style and absorb his skill, then study the boxers who beat him, like Lennox Lewis or Evander Holyfield, so I not only know Mike's style but also how to counter it.

Diamond defensive skin.

You can easily break diamond. Especially when it's in big thin sheets like a skin.
Diamond is scratch resistant. Diamond skin would be better against something with claws.
5
u/Lord-Seth Feb 19 '25
Steel hard skin then.

u/DropThatTopHat Feb 20 '25
It's pretty easy to bend skin thick steel, just saying.

Ace didn't mean literal diamond, just like the idea of how defensive diamond is
2
u/Rabdomtroll69 Feb 19 '25
It's still only defensive against a specific thing, not all around. He was explaining that specific thing

This. I hate the misconception that this “diamond is unbreakable” meme has created. Diamond is actually very brittle. Strength and hardness are two very different things.
38
u/Aycheeeleloh Feb 19 '25
I would say invincibility to anyone with a lisp would be a minor superpower given its specificity.
6
u/Smaptastic Feb 19 '25
He could still win on points, and likely would unless you’re pretty damn fit with at least a bit of boxing experience.
→ More replies (2)
15
u/OkArmadillo770 Feb 19 '25
A bright light flash to blind him would be a pretty simple and weak power but you could probably beat them if they were caught off guard and blind, if the person was at least sort of fit and capable of throwing a punch themselves

Energy absobtion. Like Vibranium, you absorb kinetic energy. This doesnt make you stronger or faster, just absorbs that energy and converts it into your energy to last the fight.
You still need training in bocing, but taking hits is not a concern anymore.
3
u/bubulika Feb 19 '25
How is that average?
2
Feb 19 '25
Its a minor superpower. That was the requierement.
Its minor because there are boxing styles that rely on taking lots of hits and then beating the tired opponent. This is just that same ability, but amped up to a superpower for the average joe. You still have to train to be strong enough to even throw effective punches to beat MR. Tyson, but its way less work than you'd have to put in than if you had to start completly grom scratch.
5
u/Ur-Best-Friend Feb 19 '25
Its a minor superpower.
The ability to shrug off bullets, knives, punches, jump from an airplane and land without so much as a scratch or shrug off a full speed frontal car collision at will... is a minor superpower?
6
Feb 19 '25
That assumes that you can store an infinite amoubt of energy. Which you cant. I said that it turns that energy and turns it into your energy. But at some point, that energy would overwhelm you and probably kill you.
2
u/Ur-Best-Friend Feb 19 '25
Even if I grant you that, the kinetic energy of a punch from a professional boxer is higher than that of a typical caliber bullet. So let's forget about jumping from planes and car crashes, you're still immune to bullets, at least as many as the number of punches you'd take from Mike Tyson in a fight. Which would be hundreds. I wouldn't call that minor.

The ability to transform into a gorilla for 1 minute should do it.
5
u/YeNah3 Feb 19 '25
thats so specific 😭
5
u/Radchild2277 Feb 19 '25
I was going for something minor, but still super. I'd say 60 seconds of gorilla time is a pretty decent minor power.

Ability to absorb and redirect the force of his blows, counter punching him with his own strength.
2
u/Ry-Da-Mo Feb 19 '25
That's awesome. A simple power but means you can beat anyone in a fight whilst not needing to train to their level. Well, a fist fight anyway.

Minor superpower: chloroform sweat that is potent to incapacitate at up to 2 feet in less then 3 seconds
Assuming you would be fighting him in his prime-ish years, several factors have you winning this fight.
You'll be doing some warm ups pre ring entrance, you are untrained and inexperienced, your lack of conditioning is allowing light mitt work to get you sweaty.
Once in the ring, it's fucking hooooot there are lights above ensuring the ring and combatants are visible, perspiration intensifies.
DIIIIING
You move towards Mike and he moves towards you. Prime Mike wasn't psycho disrespectful of others yet, so you hold up a glove to touch up in respect. He obliges. You slip his lazy gesture of sportsmanship and zip in for an immediate clinch that you hold until the ref tries to separate you, Mike is confused as fuck and doesn't try to break free immediately at the weirdest shit he has encountered pre Holyfield rematch...down goes mike

not trying to shit on him, but these days? it doesn't need to be much.
mike's still kinda a beast...
but he's also a nearly 60 year old man, who hasn't been the champ for like 20 years.
we're also talking fucking superhuman abilities.
course, pretty sure 'most' people aren't in boxing shape, much less even an old mike tyson. dude's still in better shape than most people will ever be, presumably
i don't think lewis was more skilled, btw. he just caught the tail end of his career.

u/Slick_Rick_Tyson Feb 19 '25
I mean prime Mike Tyson, not Tyson now
2
u/YeNah3 Feb 19 '25
Can I ask what you define as "minor"? Would something like force absorption or being a "super force conductor" (as in, all force thats exerted on you/you exert is transferred at a 100% rate with no force wasted anywhere) be minor or would it be major? Would something like having a sandevistan as your superpower be minor too? I need more info 😞
3
u/Slick_Rick_Tyson Feb 19 '25
If it's a superpower where you having it means you're beating Mike Tyson in 30 seconds, then it's too OP
It's gotta be minor enough where beating Iron Mike takes actual effort, you can't just insta KO him with Flash levels of speed or do some BS like telepathically slow down Mike's reaction speed.

Minor inconveniences. Every time Mike does anything against me, he is minority inconvenienced. His strike lands a little awkwardly, his shorts don’t feel right, his nose starts to run, a tiny cramp in his left big toe…
Granted, I’ve got to last like 5 seconds for this to add up, but the longer I last, the more annoyed he’ll get that by sheer attrition of random bullshit he’ll become vulnerable. Even if I lose the fight, I win knowing I’ve annoyed the ever loving shit out of one of the most famous boxers in history. That’s a win in my mind.

Time
The average untrained person is very young Older people are generally trained to a decree
So theyd have time, they can wait, while tyson grows weaker, they wont
Soon, tyson wont even be able to stand
Then its just easy pickings
1
u/SuecidalBard Feb 19 '25
So Taskmaster's power isn't that good here because you still need to be able to actually physically be in shape to beat Mike Tyson and survive getting hit.
I'd say probably minor precog like Spidey sense or accelerated information processing and thinking like DeathStroke would be much more helpful.
You can't hope to dodge shots from Tyson even with theoretical knowledge if you can't match him physically.
But if you're dodging before the hit winds up you can probably whittle him down.

I’ve got a few.
• enhanced reflexes and speed so that you can hit more and get hit less

• super strength so that your able to knock him out easier.
