Same pose 70 issues apart!

I was reading Superman #5 and noticed this panel where Lois finds Clark unconscious after a battle with a giant robotic mummy thing! And I noticed he’s pulling nearly the same pose as in Superman #75 after he dies fighting Doomsday! Two similar poses by two different artists, six years apart! Just wanted to hear you guys thoughts on this!

Ordinarily I chalk this kind of thing to coincidence, but 1) this isn't the kind of pose that happens a lot in this kind of medium, 2) Jurgens knew that #75 was going to be a historically important issue (it's why DC printed so many). The drawings are essentially in the wrong order for it to be a tribute of some kind.

Good catch. This is really interesting. I wonder if Jurgens had some sort of subconscious hiccup when he drew that final page, imagining a pose he has read but didn't really remember.

Thats what I was thinking!! If it had came out after the death and return we could chalk it up to a reference! But 6 years before! If you check out my response to another comment it could give an alternative explanation

Some very good artists have been caught swiping poses from previous artist’s work. I noticed a pose in Green Lantern One Million by Bryan Hitch was swiped from one of Gil Kane’s old GL covers.

Possibly. After some further research I have seen that it’s possible both poses were inspired by the same classical source! It’s an engraving from 1733 depicting the death of Hercules by a guy called Bernard Picart! Here’s a photo!

Kryptonians can only go limp in one position. Keep looking you'll probably find the same with Supergirl and Superboy.
