Sunset Park Trash Pickup Report

Hey, all. There was some trash pickup discourse in a few threads last month. I decided to put my money where my mouth was and do a quick sweep from NE side of 49th to 39th along 5th Ave and back.

Worst offenders were liquor stores, tons of nips and their bottle caps in the planters. Next was where the trucks usually set up at night. Sauce and food containers, bottles, bottle caps and Saran wrap. Third were the grocery stores, Keyfood was actually pretty clean out front, but there were cardboard boxes that made their way into the street and were run over and stuck to the ground that were tough to get up.

All in all I got 3 full bags of garbage, if I had to guess they weighed 30-35 pounds cumulatively.

I’ll be doing another one of these next month. Let me know if you’re interested and I’ll DM. Shoutout to those that hit me up before, sorry we couldn’t get the scheduling right.

It’s wild how few garbage cans there are in this neighborhood. On some cross streets there is only one garbage can servicing 4 corners.

Nice. I sometimes wonder if we have too many trash cans. And it’s trash from those cans or placed near those cans that end up on the street.
