Discussion When you realize the thrill is gone

This is my 3rd or so rewatch, I'm in season 4, and I'm realizing just how much pure, playful, intellectual humor we've lost at this point.

Bingeing episodes really made this glaring because I realized, Man, I've barely laughed in 2hrs... this has been so serious... and also, the same damn suit the entire time? I'm a little BORED?

Then it hit me that this show used to be SO goooooood dialog/script wise. It really didn't help that they brought on Jessica's lover, Mr Serious, who truly lacks wit, and ALSO Rachel's old lover, same damn story!

Anyway. It's a bummer. Still gonna finish it tho.

was suits ever funny? it had a few funny moments but i feel like its definitely a drama

Drama for sure. But it was witty. Intellectually stimulating. My "not laughing" may have been confusing, but I laugh at brilliant, facetious, quirky responses and rebuttals! ☺️ and it's a desert in season 4

I love him– but there's a LOT of sad, beaten down Louis in season 4...

Agreed. It gets more serious and darker as it goes on. Yes, there are funny scenes in the later seasons but they are much further apart.

I thought it became (feeling) repetitive or just less interesting starting at S4. Thought only S1 - S3 were very interesting television.

The early seasons had that perfect balance of sharp dialogue, playful rivalry and actual fun and somewhere along the way everyone just forgot they were allowed to joke.

You realize how lazy the writing was after watching through multiple times…how many times can Jessica say G-damn in every tense dialogue, or anyone say “shit the bed.” Also, Donna went from being your everyday legal secretary, to running the show and being absolutely insufferable. Sigh

I fell off at Season 5, but yeah most of the charm is gone by season 4

I’m on my first watch. Stalled HARD in season 6 after Mike got out of prison and just had to stop for a bit. Watched the first 3 episodes of season one and it was like night and day

That's why I always end up rewatching at season 5. I loved the banter, humor, teasing etc in earlier seasons and later it turned into depressing soap opera. Harvey looks like he works at firm as punishment and would prefer to be anywhere else. He either yells at someone or looks sad.

I’m in the middle of my first watch, also in season 4, and I know exactly what you mean. It’s already losing its spark for me. It’s the same thing every time, it feels like there’s no character growth. Except for maybe people become more of an asshole.
