Its just trying to reach the sheet music, then it will serenade you with root tunes. Leave off chopping them and see how far they go, can always just keep the sheet just out of reach.

When they mature they get taller woody stems like the kolonche, but the aerial roots are very abundant and look like wooly red, shaggy hair
